BREAKING: Karen Hughes resigns.
BREAKING: Karen Hughes resigns.
Karen Hughes, one of President Bush’s longest-serving advisers, is stepping down from her position at the State Department as Under Secretary of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. Before taking the job at State, Hughes was a Counselor to the President and played an integral role in his 2000 campaign. MSNBC reports:

President Bush had asked Karen Hughes to go to the State Department and help sell America’s ideas about democracy and the war on terror around the world. Polls show that there has been no improvement in the way the world views the United States since Hughes took over. Now it appears she’s resigning.

3. I only recall her making one trip to Saudi Arabia in the last four years.
What a waste of taxpayer dollars. She did absolutely nothing in that position.

17. Don't be fooled by her..
she was flying under the radar, but she was heavily involved in micromanaging diplomacy (keeping a tight rein on "the message"). Of course, it didn't work, but I've thought for a while that that's their goal anyway, that is to screw things up as much as they can.

43. Someone I know went with her and a group of college admins to India.
Idea was to draw more Indian students to the US. Apparently there's been a drop-off the last few years.

4. She had a tough job.... everywhere she went she got attacked for Bush's wrongdoing and corruption...
Makes you wonder why she came back from Texas to do this job.

If anyone knows the damage Bush has done to this country internationally, it is her. She got it at every stop, and it was not pretty.

6. Why, when I see the name
"karen hughes" do I think of The Texas Fascists? Too much to ask for, that she would just go away and we'd never hear about her again, I suppose?

7. It's hard to take peace and democracy to the middle east when you realize
you might come back in pieces, burned, limbless, blind, deaf, brain damaged, or some other such typical military injury.

Good riddance to bad shit

Something about a wayward teenage son who needed tending to or some such bullshit?

I've always thought that Karen and the chimp had a rather unhealthy relationship, she's kind of like the mommy he never had..

41. even more bizarre
is to consider the relationship that Karen has with Barb Bush. a disapproving mother and an over-paid nanny constantly tsk-tsking the boy king for being so irretrievably stupid.

god, i just gave myself goosebumps. ick

11. PLEASE LET THE DOOR HIT YOU IN THE ASS ON THE WAY OUT, Karen.
HARD.

You are nothing but a worthless waste of space. A fat globule that has turned into an oozing puss filled blemish on America.

Anyone who thought you could do anything except screw things up is an idiot. And since you work for an idiot, it's a perfect match.

In the words of your Vice President Dick Cheney: Go f*ck yourself!

Will someone permanently disgrace these bad pennies before they turn up again? She's probably going back to her real job as political hack in the campaign somewhere.

21. And giving them imunity was a good thing to do for diplomacy!!
"Negative events never help," Hughes said when asked how events like last month's shooting of Iraqi civilians by private U.S. security guards in Iraq affects the way the world sees the United States.

She got the job just to pad her bank account with our tax dollars.

She sure as hell didn't earn that six-figure salary.

The last time Ms. Hughes "resigned", she was actually working on a campaign.

Looks like it's another Rummy "retirement", huh?
