1. Yes, I think people should be clear about this distinction

Do they mean little green men, or unexplained "flying" phenomena? There have been many reported objects unexplained; I'll leave it to the more rational to state with certainty what they must or must not be.

pretty close in 98 at mesa verde nat park, CO. it was a perfect mirrored sphere, about 30' diameter, 1/4 mile away about 300' altitude.

i could see the colors of the ground reflected underneath it, sage, red sandstone, white sand, deep green pinion trees as it moved slowly up to the crest of the ridge.

i waved at it and it quickly turned a gold color, then bronze to black and blinked out of sight

Last I've heard a solid majority BELIEVE in UFO's, even though they haven't seen one.
