MSNBC Has Signed New LONG-TERM Contract With Keith Olbermann
Edgy TV host Olbermann to renew MSNBC deal By Paul J. Gough
Thu Feb 15, 4:20 AM ET

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - MSNBC is expected to announce Thursday that it has signed a new long-term contract with "Countdown" host Keith Olbermann, sources said.

MSNBC would not comment late Wednesday.

Olbermann, a former ESPN sportscaster, gained publicity last year for his feud with Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly and his special commentaries against President Bush's policies, particularly in regard to the response to Hurricane Katrina and the war in Iraq. "Countdown" recently has seen a strong uptick in ratings, helping lead MSNBC to the best competitive position in its history against second-place CNN.

Details of Olbermann's contract were not available. It also isn't known whether it includes any other opportunities within the NBC Universal family.

5. I hope it prohibits him from taking even one day off!
I hate it when he's not there.

Maybe we should make he and Jon agree to never be gone the same week. I'm not sure I'd survive!

8. Funny how a guy so 'out of the mainstream' keeps growing his audience..
The performance of the Fifth column during the period 1995-2006 will go down in history as the BIG SELLOUT IMO.

9. 'Bout time
Countdown is the only talking head news show worth watching any more. KO doesn't play the game whereby facts have to be "balanced" with rightwing spin.

and only a little bit jealous. Anyway, hope you had a great Valentine's Day down in San Diego land. Do you know anything about Carlsbad, California? We're thinking about going there for a vacation.

As for Keith, I say -- you're the best thing that's happened to the news since Edward R. Murrow (and a lot cuter, too, but I know that's not important).

Good night and good luck!
