I watched that Red Eye show on Fox Noise Channel, and want to share some thoughts on it

One of the worst talk shows on television in recent memory was "Tough Crowd," with Collin Quinn.

Without getting into a list of all the things that were wrong with "Tough Crowd," (aside from the obvious fact that it was hosted by Collin Quinn) I want to recognize the handful of things that were right with the show-- diversity, dissent, and a raucous audience.

Now, take those three things out of "Tough Crowd," and you have the feculent nucleus to form the giant turd-ball dribbling slowly downward toward hell that is "Red Eye."

Into that avalanche of crap, toss in a handful of "Mad Money," and a dash of Dennis Miller's "Varsity Panel" suck-up festivals, and a small homage to David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel, by having the host's mother as a regular call-in guest.

I at least expected to be shocked by controversial "conservative humor" or even to be propagandized.

Instead, it was like drinking flat cola. The whole show was just a bland, boring mutual admiration society of half-wits going for the easy jokes.

It was like letting the local television weatherman write all the jokes. (No insult meant to David Letterman, who started off doing the weather).

The only thing noteworthy was the fact that StopGlobalWarming.org aired their PSA during the show, which I found to be a jaw-droppingly stupid waste of their money.

This show is so un-substantive and unremarkable that it can't even be called "bad."

Red Eye has the feel of a long-running show in its last weeks, where all the participants know their contracts are up, they've cashed their last paychecks, and they're just keeping seats warm because walking off the set would get them a bad reference for their next jobs.

panel was. You would think with all the $$$ Newscorp has they could afford to hire some actual writers.

and this show is so bad that they put in on Fox News instead.

5. The thing about the daily show is that they aren't outright liberal...

... that's what makes it so funny. Jon Stewart is a liberal, yes, but the show isn't about 'being liberal', it's about real world events and a reasonable, witty take on them.

Most people that I know who watch the daily show aren't very political, they like it because it's funny.

10. Stephanie Miller did a great review...wow, what a shitty laugh track

OK, the jokes were written by Repugs, which by definition, are NEVER funny*. That's a given.

What was truly hideous was the bad usage of a laugh track to sweeten the otherwise lackluster audience participation...I mean you can't force people to laugh.

She played a segment with Rush Limpole (a double failure at TV) was the President. He said some of his usual half-wit, drug-addled crap and the laugh track sounded dated, monotonic and appeared to sound like a small loop of canned laughter duped to repeat for a longer time. Then he calls his VP, Ann Coulter, in (insert shitty laugh track here) and she comes in and tries to be funny*...and thud, more bad laugh track insertion.

It's going to be about as funny as Hee Haw...and not nearly as clever.

12. I caught a couple of minutes of "Red Eye" last night. One of them brought up the fact that the

US Military is now accepting convicted felons into service. The one named Billy thought that was great - he wanted the convicted felons "over there" instead of "over here" victimizing HIM. No concern whatever for the non-felon troops who will now be living with known thieves or thugs. None. He was, in fact, laughing about it. Truly unbelievable.
