Democratic senator looks to revoke Bush's 2002 Iraq authority

A Democratic candidate for president is planning legislation which would revoke the 2002 Congressional authorization which gave President Bush the power to invade Iraq, RAW STORY has learned.

In prepared remarks for a speech about Iraq to be given today at the liberal-leaning Brookings Institution, Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (DE-D), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, states that the "best next step is to revisit the authorization Congress granted the President in 2002 to use force in Iraq."

"That’s exactly what I’m doing," Biden continues. "We gave the President that power to destroy Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction and, if necessary, to depose Saddam Hussein."

Biden adds that "the WMD were not there," "Saddam Hussein is no longer there," and that the "2002 authorization is no longer relevant to the situation in Iraq."

1. Good
I may even stop hating Biden for a couple days. But let's see if he actually does something.

2. Then Biden could say "I voted for it before I voted against it"

But it's still a good idea.

3. Joe's layin' a little tough love on Dubya.
Joe Biden's odds of becoming president, I feel, are not very strong, but they're better than Dubya's odds of being remembered as a sentient being.

This presidency is over.

11. Bush in Paraguay! That's a riot. And that damning phrase he
just used, too.

I almost typed, "What was he thinking" and then realized that he DOESN'T think, and that's the problem.

One more great visual added to a long list.

6. Anything that draws more attention to W and Iraq is a good thing
because slowly but surely the American public is starting to come out of their 6 year funk.

7. nice effort, but how can it pass without Bush signing it???
The only power the Dems have is in future spending bills. As in not passing future spending bills.

12. Biden supported Bush in making this war, this unspeakable crime against humanity.

It is not a mere "mistake".
Biden should announce he is not running for elective office, due to his previous alliance with Bush.

To have supported a war of aggression is not merely a mistake, it borders on criminality. It certainly is the worst possible judgment.

Not something to forgive and forget.
