It never ceases to amaze me how uninformed Ameircans are
I finihsed putting together a care package and sent it

I bought some of the stuff at the PX, so people there didn't bat an eye. After all, you can say what you want about the military, but we take care of our own... even well after people retire... why we send those care packages

But I needed some stuff still so I went to Ralphs.

The first reaction was surprise since I included candy canes... yes they are out... sick... but in this case, good... they'll have them... but next the face of utter surprise when I told the clek where this was going to. She is young, prime military age

Thought she did ask, and if you wish to send a care package www.anysoldier.com is the place... or there are plenty of DU'ers who have relatives in harms way.

Then I took this thing to UPS, another two military age kids...

And the usual subject came about...

But, but you've got to be kidding me... they HAVE to have toilet paper and toothpaste and toothbrushes

BZZZ... in short supply and has been since this mess started.

As usual, just another observation on daily life in Amerika.

I guess mentioning to these kids that there is a national strike tomorrow... oh never mind... just keeping their attention long enough on there is a war on is hard work.

(And yes I know some DU'ers are from that generation, but I keep asking, where the fuck are they when I go to a demonstration)

What about e-mailing? I was just thinking that for myself.
It's my hope and prayer that when we get a Dem in office things will begin to ease up for those of us who are struggling to survive. This is not America. You're in my thoughts!

3. It would never occur to most of the computer generation
to get on a bus,go to D.C., and march in protest.

They just type away and complain.

Sad !

5. Once the draft starts
that will change

the reason why most of america is not protesting is two fold

1.- It does not directly affect them

2.- As the first poster pointed out, people are squeezed economically

7. This is all true and intentional
Bread & circuses. The people can't revolt if they're too busy feeding their families like everyone else, they think it's normal, and at least they can say they're not "over there". The Repugs wouldn't dare do a draft, that would be the final nail in the GOP coffin. They'd rather bury the innocent who sign up not knowing what they're getting themselves into, and keep the news off American tvs.

nobody sings these days expecting to serve state side

Oh wait, I forgot the recruiters do lie their asses off...

and just the other day they showed a guard recruitment add at the movie theater... nice add, but Iraa and Afghanistan were conspicuously misising

14. Yes, but Americans don't see it that way
Most don't anyway. Their view is simple: as long as they don't have to go they don't care enough about it to do anything but follow the crowd in supporting, then denouncing it. But ask them their views on why we're there -- you'll walk away unsatisfied. They still think Saddam was "a bad man who had to go". And I bet many of them blame the length of the war on the Iraqis, just like they've been told by the administration.

Sometimes I think the only way to wake the people up in this country IS to have a draft and let them find out for themselves how the government cares about our military. But I have no desire to lead lambs to the slaughter like BushCo.
