CSPAN callers respond.
I always tune into this. The true conservative wackos always seem to get through. I love it when they rant and rave and really make their party look worse through their support.

Popcorn popped. :D

Let's share.

Did you hear the guy say that this speech was bad--sounded like it was written by fifth graders--even by Bush's standards?

9. There haven't been a lot of Democratic calls.
Mostly conservatives demonstrating blind allegiance.

I'll post them as they come in.

She's talking to Joshua Micah Marshall from TalkingPointsMemo.com right now. He said that, because the president has no direction in policy, his speech sucked and it was more about "give me a little more time to see if it can work" than outlining any policy direction--because that's the only direction the prez has left.

And he said that he was especially concerned about the references to Iran.

22. Impressed that Marshall was talked to in the "response" period.
I read TPM daily - I am impressed that he is being called upon as a voice for response after the SOTU. While he has been writing for a number of periodicals for quite some time - I think his inclusion in the early part of the post-SOTU response is likely due to the large and growing readership of his site and its spawn sites.

Wonder what ever happened to DJ. The twin babies are in the paparazzi all the time...

And why are we talking about this? What a funny tangent to take in a thread about the SOTU.

You're right, though. There is some resemblance.

44. About DJ.....
I am pretty sure that she is Kirk Cameron's little sister and is a fundamentalist christian like he is now. Remember him from the show Growing Pains (or something like that)? He is now a crappy actor who has done all the "left behind" series movies and does those infomercials for the "way of the master" (I think) stuff from some fundies. If you haven't seen those infomercials...you should see them...truly frightening and I am a Christian, but these people are insane and truly don't know what it means to be Christian.

11. Louise Slaughter, D NY--
talking on the floor to a CSPAN journalist. She says that she's perplexed about the health care proposal--sounds like it's going to do away with employer provided insurance.

Also talking about troop levels. Says that both sides of congress are wanting to stop what's going on with Iraq, and that troops won't be denied what they need in the field, that Bush is about to ask for 100B more for Iraq, and that they will have a real "face to face, George wake up" conversation at that time.

Maybe its me, but it seems we are more in the red then we were before the pukes cut the deficit.

27. so discountable if one talks about how much he exploded the
deficit by even his second year in office - creating RECORD size deficits - at this point his "cuts in half" are probably larger than the "record deficit" prior to his presidency.

21. Chicago caller, Iraq war vet who spent a year in Baghdad.
"Americans need to fulfill our commitment. We have to stand behind the president. If we abandon them now, the national security of our country would be at greater risk. We have to stay the course and see this through to the end. We have to have resolve as Americans. I haven't heard any alternatives to the best way forward. I think the prez is trying to do a shift and it ought to be given a chance to come to fruition. I support the call for 92,000 additional troops. We have overextended the capabilities of what we are able to do. By bolstering our forces, we can fight the long war on terrorism. My sincere belief is that honestly the American people have not been called upon to sacrifice a lot for this war. Every element that we have to bear should be toward victory."

31. I can understand one who has gone and lost friends
and those who have lost family members to this war for the sentiments expressed than other people. It is a human response to want to believe that such a serious sacrifice was made in a noble cause. I don't agree - but i can understand where the sentiment comes from.

Said this speech is just like past speeches, except some of this was to be just what the people wnated to hear.

Said that it should be more about action than words. Opposes sending more people to police a situation that has nothign to do with us.

I support Bush on the troops. I think that sometimes we forget about our safety and selfishnessly (sic) think about ourselves. People who go into the military go in to have fun, but they should be thinking about our country.

WTF?
