2. Steny is trying to get it in commitee so it will die.
IMHO, I only hope that Bush has decided to throw Cheney under the bus and the Repugnicans are following suit. There has been no love lost between Bush and Cheney for some time.

3. *sits on hands*
Even when Mr. Voiceover tried to explain it, I didn't get it.

The current vote is on ordering the previous question.
WTF?

All the dems are saying yea to this one, repubs are saying nay.

7. Kucinich and Boner + repukes want the debate to go forward. Hoyer wants the
resolution to go to the Judiciary Committee where it will die. The repukes want to debate and THEN vote against Impeachment to embarrass the Democrats. If the Democrats want to turn the table on these monsters they should vote for IMPEACHMENT! They ARE the Majority Party.

8. Okay (skeered to death of being ridiculed). Cheney was just handed his hat.
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 04:17 PM by sicksicksick_N_tired
He no longer has a sure thing in this government.

There are enough to challenge his retaliatory tendencies that, if/when he does "retaliate", he will be finished.

That's a guess. I'll hold up my hand,...at a guess, being forever a student and never an "expert" on life or these matters within it.

Edited to add "retaliate" by Cheney.

13. I don't think there's *any* one thing going on.
There are several things going on.

30% of congress thinks Cheney should be impeached.
20% think that Cheney's a bigger liability to the opposition right where he is.
Not counting the above 20%, 50% of congress don't want Cheney impeached.
Of those 50%, half think that the idea is so preposterous that they welcome what they expect to be a ridiculous, support-galvanizing sideshow, e.g. Monica Lewinski.

For the last group to be proven correct, it is necessary for the "moderate" democrats to sit on their hands.

Hoyer and company, get on the damn bus.

18. You know it's weird. My cats eat a huge variety of food, but always wind up smelling of fish.
They eat everythiung. Broccoli, cantelope, whatever they can snag. But it all ends up smelling like fish.

20. I guess they think they can embarrass the dems. That the 'mainstream' is way against it.
I disagree. I think the mainstream is closer than they (inclduing the dems) think.

26. Cheney may be irrelevant. Making the Dems look weak or ineffective may be the goal
Not that they need much help, but this could be a serious avenue for attack. I don't know, again, but I can't see an alternative explanation that makes sense.

The same committee which already has H. Res. 333. The same committee which has not taken any action on H. Res. 333.

a vote on the previous question yields to questions of privilege, under Rule IX.

24. The Repubs want a knock down fight
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 04:30 PM by Az
They want to debate the issue on the floor. They want to turn this into a media circus. And it is clear from the voting that the Dems are not up for a serious fight. They were voting to table the thing and it got reversed on them. Now they have to go and make the case for impeachment but they simply are not going to have the steam for it or the votes. And once they get their asses handed to them by the vote which will go against impeachment the issue of impeachment will be dead.

Unless the Dems get their shit together for once in this session they are going to blow it big time here and now. We just got played. And its because our "leaders" have been spineless toadies and have no freaking idea of what to do other than let the right have their way and hope they make enough mistakes to throw the elections the Dems way. Thats not a plan. Thats hiding from your own freaking shadow.

GROW A FREAKING SPINE DEM LEADERSHIP. YOUR FREAKING CONSTITUENTS NEED YOU TO DO YOU FREAKING JOB.
