More Republican stupidity from Virginia...now they hate Honest Abe...
The House rules committee tabled the creation of a commission to celebrate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincolns birth......and why would they do this...particularly since the state senate passed it?

Well here you go...

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Virginia lawmakers meeting on the grounds of the former Confederate Capitol killed legislation creating a commission to oversee the state's participation in the national commemoration of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth.

The House Rules Committee rejected Sen. Henry L. Marsh III's bill on a voice vote Wednesday. The Senate had passed the bill unanimously.

Robert Lamb of Richmond, a lawyer and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, told the committee that supporters of a Virginia celebration of Lincoln's birth suffer from ``historical myopia and amnesia.''

``He sent armies into Virginia to lay waste to our land,'' Lamb said. He said Marsh's bill should be amended to replace the Lincoln commemoration with a June 3, 2008, celebration of the 200th birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.***

1. Why should they celebrate Lincoln?
Should modern day residents of Georgia laud Sherman?

3. What is in the water in Virginia?
My sister lives there and this begins to concern me. Of course its kind of like my shock when I went to Georgia a few years back and one of those historical plaques referred to the Civil War as the War of Nothern Aggression so I guess Virginia doesn't have a monopoly on this idiocy!!:)

5. From KO last night:
But our winners, the rules committee of the Virginia State House. Today it rejected legislation that would have created a commission to oversee the state’s participation in national commemorations of the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. The committee took testimony from a guy named Robert Lamb from the Sons of Confederate Veterans, who said Lincoln sent armies into Virginia to lay waste to the state, that the state should instead celebrate the birthday of Jefferson Davis, and that anybody who disagreed with him suffered from, "historical myopia and amnesia."

Well, if we’re going to start calling people names, Mr. Lamb, didn’t all that happen because Virginia wanted to leave the United States and maintain slavery — so what if that was treason. I grew up in No Virginia, and I have to believe that all the red necky stuff is happening in the southern part because I never got a sense of bigotry as I have the last few years coming out of VA.

8. "He sent armies into Virginia to lay waste to our land".
And those armies weren't greeted as "liberators" and
showered with fricking flowers, were they?

Talk about "historical myopia and amnesia"!
