What is an insurgent ?

This question has been asked in here already I am sure. Just curious, is a new Iraqi mother trying to protect her family an insurgent? Or the 7 year old boy that is mad as Hell cause he no longer has parents or brothers and sisters an insurgent? What would YOU do if YOUR door was kicked in, even if you were following all the militaries new rules, wouldn't you feel violated and angry?

The people who are kidnapping rival members of Shiite or Sunni clans, herding them out to a field, and shooting them all in the back of the head, are insurgents.
