DU Tech Gurus...help!
Can't install Flash Player 9 on my PC. It "acts" as if it has been installed, but it hasn't.

Closed browser windows before installing.
Never saw that so-called "gold bar" that you need to click on if problems occur.
Rebooted. Still no update of player.

Can't view youtube etc.

PC: Dell
System: XP
Plenty of space
Browser: IE 5

What is the problem? TIOA!

1. Uninstall it and then re-install.

For users, here is a fix that seems to work well:

1. Quit all open programs.
This step is important because other programs may be using the Flash Player,
and if they are, the uninstaller will fail silently.

2. Run the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller.
3. Reinstall your Flash player.

2. IE 5 may be the problem.
I really recommend getting Firefox, instead.

3. That was my thought, too
Most updated programs specify IE 5.5 or higher. IE is now up to 7.

Get either IE7 or Firefox with the IE addon.

Please refer to the following resources, specific to your platform:

If you are having problems installing the Macromedia Flash Player for Windows or Macintosh,
please see the following TechNote: http://www.macromedia.com/go/tn_19166

================================================

I was thinking the same thing though...lol

GET FIREFOX 2 !!! It's much better than IE anyday!

Also? Any Spybot SW etc. can cause a problem with Adobe Flash Player

6. Thank you all. Mission accomplished!

I uninstalled FP then reinstalled. Before all this, I noticed that my "spam program" was blocking my installation. Allowed installation. I rebooted. Went to youtube. Eureka!

To those that have mentioned Firefox - I don't know anything about it. that is why I tried the uninstall first. I will google about Firefox though.

My thanks to all of you with your quick and mind-saving recommendations!

BTW, I am using IE7 not 5. Loose nut behind keyboard!

edit: forgot stuff
