Election 2008: nary a WASP male in sight
We live in interesting times, indeed. I'm pretty sure this is the first presidential election ever in which none of the four frontrunners (two from each party) are white, anglo-saxon protestant males. To date, only one non-WASP has ever been elected president, of course, and he was a young, handsome, witty, well-spoken war hero from a family of wealthy Irish gangsters (as opposed to the wealthy WASP gangsters that usually end up running things). Whatever the outcome (barring the unlikely advent of a WASPy darkhorse, that is), we're looking at a bit of history in the making. For whatever that's worth.

2. A month ago I might have agreed with you.
I think, though, that Robertson's endorsement of Giuliani pretty much put a stake through Huckabee's greasy, shriveled heart.

3. Well, Dobson's Raving Loony Roundup (tm) endorsed Hyuckabee.
So it lends further credence to a split in the Repub base if Rudy is the nominee.

4. I'd love to see a Huckabee 3rd party run, but I doubt it'll happen.
He's too much of a party loyalist, I'm guessing. He's still relatively young, and will likely bide his time 'til '12 or '16, when he'll have better name recognition and Rudy and Romney will be off doing other things. Of course I could be totally wrong.

5. Oh, no...I'm not talking about a Huckabee 3rd party
I'm talking about just a MAJOR split in the evangelical kook vote. Will Dobson, against everything he's railed against for so long, support Rudy? Or will he stick to his twisted principles and help get someone like Roy Moore a third-party bid?

6. I get it now.
Sorry, I'm not usually this slow. Yes--that's an interesting question. No, I don't see Dobson supporting Rudy; yes, I think what we've got here is the beginning of a power-struggle within the fundie hierarchy, which may end with Robertson being viewed as a sell-out by large numbers of the most rabid fundies. I think if Roy Moore (or Tancredo, or whoever) runs on the Conservative Party ticket, we should all send his campaign a few bucks. What I'd like even better, though, is a for the Democratic candidate to win with a substantial majority in a two-way race; something we haven't done in a while.
