Banging my head against a wall and cursing loudly.
I ducked out for an hour to go get my haircut. Now my hairdresser is a very sweet woman who gets her worldview and marching orders from the pulpit every Sunday. Today on the teevee in her little business the news was on and some discussion of the war was taking place. She mentioned how terrible this war was but that if we left Iraq then Iran would take it over. I asked her how she knew that and she could not give me any rationale for it other than she heard it at church. And the next the you know, she sez, is that they will be taking over Israel and then come here. I asked her if she could tell me what a "victory" would look like in Iraq and she sez she didn't know, but we had to win there. I asked how much longer she thought we should stay to "win." She didn't know for sure but knew that it would take a long time. I asked her if she knew how much money this war was costing and tossed out a reference to billions per day, not per month, but per day. Her eyebrows shot up. I asked her how long we could afford to stay there since we were already heavily in debt as a nation to support this debacle. She doesn't say anything for a bit. I then asked her if all this death and destruction was solving anything. She sez it doesn't appear to be, but we just need to be patient. I asked her what gave us the right to tell other nations how to govern themselves. She sez that they had that dictator over there. I asked her if we've taken care of the hatred and injustice in or own nation, have we fed our own hungry, and taken care of the needs of our children and elderly. Then I say to her that it is time for this Christian nation to start practicing Christianity rather than distorting it for profit.

She sez but that Nancy Pelosi wanted a big airplane.....

Deep cleansing breaths. I give her the truth about the plane and she shuffles her feet and sez that Pelosi could have refused it even if she didn't ask for it.

I want to get home in time to hear what Pelosi has to say so I point out that we need to set my next appointment date.

I'm exhausted.

I know I would not have lasted anywhere near that long. Good for you!

She sounds a lot like my SIL, poor gal.

what someone else told her.

5. Best not to infuriate a person holding scissors near your head.
Find another hairdresser in the meantime.

10. Not much.
She only charges me $10 for a hair cut. When I first started going there 4 years ago, haircuts were still $6 and back when I colored my hair, a cut and color w/blowdry was $25.

9. Reminds me of a nice RW lady I used to work with.
Before an election, we were talking about the issues, who we supported, etc., and this nice lady (truly one of the sweetest people you could ever meet) started talking about who she was going to vote for. Straight Republican.

I asked her why in the world we she support someone who did this or did that, and how that seemed to go against her loving and caring personality.

Her response? "My husband told me who to vote for." :wow:

I just shook my head and walked away. :banghead:

12. How Did The Haircut Come Out?
You are one brave person.

Nevermind the bravery needed to challenge someone holding scissors near your head.

Some hairdressers can mess up a haircut if they think their client disagrees too much with them.

I hope that did not happen to you!

She's not a mean person, just an extremely misguided one.

17. That happened to me in '04.
Bad haircut because my hairdresser saw my bumper stickers. I should have read his slow shake of the head as a warning, but I did not. It took two years to grow that mess out.

16. Ask her if she supports torturing people.
Because aside from the mountain of reasons to not be there, including the fact that it's illegal, we're TORTURING people. It's like it doesn't sink in unless it's coming from the right source. But torture is where people suffer suffer suffer. How Christian of these people to not even think about those who are in the cells being ripped apart.

It boggles me even more that like Bush himself, the myriad bits of evidence all point to illegal, illegitimate, immoral, and totally wrong in every possible way this whole last six years is. You'd have to be braindead and looking the other way to miss it.

It makes me wanna holler and throw up both my hands... As Gil Scott Heron would say.

18. You're so wasting your time.
The woman obviously hears what she wants to hear--which is that everything's fine, Bush is a great Christian leader, and we'd be winning if those damn liberals would just hould their mouths right. While I admire your enterprising spirit, you'd be better off asking her about her kids and her cocker spaniel and leaving it at that.

20. It still sounds like Skidmore got her thinking
She's not going to have a sudden change of mind right then and there.

These are the little things that really work. In time, they add up. Next time she is in church, some of the disconnect between Christianity and the Repukes could hit her.

There truly is no reasoning with ignorant people who get there world view in tiny bites hand fed by some coiffed-haired preacher on Sunday morning.
