http://www.charleston.net/assets/webPages/departmental/news/Stories.aspx?section=localnews&tableId=130761&pubDate=2/16/2007State Sen. Darrell Jackson said Thursday his public relations company has a consulting contract pending with U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign worth up to $10,000 a month, but he said it didn't affect his decision to endorse the presidential candidate.
"We didn't strike a deal for me to endorse Sen. Clinton. We had three offers on the table. All of them were for at least the very same amount as the Sen. Clinton offer," Jackson said.
He said the other two offers were from the campaigns of former U.S. Sen. John Edwards - whom Jackson endorsed in 2004 - and for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.
Jackson, D-Columbia, said he doesn't draw a salary from his public relations firm, which he founded in 1986 with other partners and which he said is the state's oldest and largest black-owned public relations firm.
Jackson also said it wasn't his idea to announce his backing of Clinton, D-N.Y., earlier this week: He said the news was leaked by state Sen. Robert Ford, D-Charleston.
