Larry Johnson on Randi just predicted that a high profile attack in Iraq
will be blamed on Iran. This will happen in the next couple of months. He also said 4 carrier groups are going to be in the Gulf.

1. he also says we dont know what the hell we are doing
al-Sadr is more of an anti-Iran figure but we are demonzing him.

al-Hakim is more pro-Iranian but we invite him to the White House.

4. i doubt it would be the iranians
they would have nothing to gain with such an attack. on the other hand who would benefit from such an "attack"? i think we all know

5. he said we are doing our damnest to provoke them
He talked about recent terrorists attacks in Iran.

But then he pointed out that Iran has helped us in Afghanistan and we sell them F14 parts.

He thinks Bush is confused and has no clue.

18. we have been in worse relationships with iran in the past
but this crew is that they are actually wanting a war instead of avoiding one..

6. If there were an actual war, no carrier groups would be inside the Straits.
There are plenty of perfectly good airfields all around Iran that could be used by US strike aircraft. There's absolutely no reaosn to put any US surface combatants other then escorts and minesweepers at risk by placing them inside the Gulf.

Larry's repeating a meme he's hearing from others.

The Bush-Cheney Administration still thinks it's going to pressure Iran to give up its nuclear program. Not going to happen,so long as Washington continues to employ threats.

9. They make more convenient targets inside the Gulf.
After all, if your goal is to provoke an attack (in lieu of false flag) then you make sure the opportunity is presented. Quite frankly, I can see no other reason to create such a "target-rich" shooting gallery - since I agree it makes little sense from a defensive military standpoint.

13. Provocation assumes Iran would attack first.
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 05:31 PM by leveymg
We could steam the entire 5th Fleet through the Straits of Hormuz and the Iranians would only stare in disbelief. The Iranian military is under orders NOT to fire at U.S. vessels and aircraft unless they receive orders from central commanders.

Those orders are similar to those that Soviet front-line units had until after the June 22, 1941 German offensive was confirmed. Russian units literally didn't fire back for days even after being pounded by German artillery and being overrun by panzers.

Iran won't fight many direct battles, anyway. They'll hold almost all of their most effective equipment and units back in anticipation of a long, hit-and-run guerrilla-style operation. For instance, most of their anti-shipping missiles are hidden in caves and under cottages along 300 miles of shoreline. They also have a lot of very small speedboats equipped with ASMs. They're not counting on their few frigates and subs surviving very long.

I sincerely doubt that the Iranian Navy shoots first.

21. The Navy may not have had anything to do with putting
them there. Those brilliant military minds, bush and cheney, may have overridden the Admirals.

15. If Iran retaliated by mining the Gulf, US minesweepers would have to operate there
and they would have to be escorted by cruisers and destroyers (at the very least).

If the US wanted to seize and hold Iranian islands near the Strait, they would have to operate the Bataan Strike Group in the Gulf.

Would Saudi Arabia, Iraq and other Gulf States let the US launch strike aircraft from their territory??? Dunno.

I think there would be at least one carrier group in the Gulf if the Decider decides to attack...

16. If Iran retaliated, there'd already be a shooting war going on
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 06:00 PM by leveymg
and until American commanders were assured Iranian shore ASMs were all destroyed, it would be irresponsible to have a target like an aircraft carrier confined within range of Iran's ASMs.

They would risk the assault ship and destroyers, but not an aircraft carrier.

The Gulf is only 200 miles across. They'd launch aircraft from bases in eastern Iraq, Oman, and Qatar.

17. Obviously, Bush is using the same strategery he used with 9-11, Enron, Katrina, Iraq, ...
He's going to let the 4 carriers get sunk, while he reads "My Pet Goat".

19. It's not about the nuke program. It's about triggering another war
Is it for the oil? Is it to please those 'christians' who think a war with Iran will bring on the end times? More vast profits for Merc corporations and contractors? All of the Above? Something else? What ever it is the nuke program is just an excuse just as getting bin laden was an excuse to attack afghanistan, considering the taliban offered to turn him over to a third party before 9/11 several times and again after. Just as the nonexistant wmds and nonexistant ties with al queda were the excuse for iraq.

12.  There alot of people in the know who are very concerned
I hear all sorts of different chatter about going into Iran .

Most fear it will happen , I do too because as many know bush and more so cheney have their plans and have spent to much energy to just give up their dreams and aspirations .

There are so many ways this could explode into a war and we really don;t know all who are behind this war plan .

We probably get 1/100th of the picture of what is really going on .

If we knew for certain then there would be panic and this is not what they want nore do they want their plans foiled in the bowels of the pentagon .

plus 'clear' 'circumstances' and 'situations' ... if a provocation is being planned, how are they going to railroad this fiasco knowing that a draft will be needed and second that the Republican party will have nailed a lid on its own coffin ?

Whatever became of the negotiations and world opinion ? Any Iranian missiles will potentially be aimed at Europe too .
