Conaway sees GOP House wins in '08

All I know...is that I want some of what THEY are smoking in their alternate realities.

S. Rep. Mike Conaway believes taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008 is a realistic goal because a number of Republicans lost last fall in predominantly GOP districts.

Also helping to lead the Victory in Iraq Caucus campaign this week to oppose Democrats' efforts to pass an anti-troop surge resolution Friday, the Midland Republican said scandals associated with Congressman Mark Foley and others made last year's elections an anomaly.

"We need to convince voters that our Republican ideals of limited government, low taxes, greater freedoms and greater personal responsibility create a better environment in which to raise our children and provide a better future for our grandchildren," Conaway said in an interview this week with the Reporter-Telegram.

"We got blitzed in the Northeast, but we should be able to regain the seats that are normally Republican."

7. I think Dwight D. Eisenhower was the last good Republic.
But Lincoln, he was really a Democrat by today's standards. :)

8. Not going to happen! But feel free do stay in your delusional world.
The Republic party lost congress because you failed this nation. Democrats are taking their job seriously! If anything, the Democrats will gain alot of seats in both houses next year!

"We need to convince voters that our Republican ideals of limited government (even though we have balooned the government like never before), low taxes (for oil companies, while the middle-class struggles to fill up the tank to get to work), greater freedoms (Have you heard of the Patriot Act? Wiretapping? Illegal warrantless searches?) and greater personal responsibility (did someone just say 'Katrina'?) create a better environment (no, not the environment we're allowing Big Business to destroy - the OTHER environment) in which to raise our children (the ones who are getting a sub-standard education, and have no health insurance) and provide a better future for our grandchildren (who MUST survive, so they can pay off the debt we've accumulated)."

Yeah, good luck with that convincing the voters thing ...

12. Foley's district in Fla. We have some reason to worry
The Democratic congress need be exceptional. No tolerance of corruptable figures. Try to be unified. Pass legislation the people want. Making unions easier to organize is a good start.
Another idea. Don't think new Democrats need be thought of as backbenchers. The next Democratic majority is dependent upon the Dem. freshmen's success. They should be given good committee assignments, not sushed away to the backbenches. Treat them as rising stars.
