Cornyn fights FutureGen cut --another "Follow the Money"

S. Sen. John Cornyn and a Permian Basin FutureGen advocate protested Thursday a $36 million reduction in program funding proposed by House Democrats in Washington.

Noting the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2007 would also cut the military and U.S. Marshals Service by $3.2 billion, Cornyn filed two amendments to restore all three programs to the levels approved by House Republican leadership last year.

The measures were defeated, but the senator said he will keep trying "to secure funding for this important project" as the bicameral budgeting process goes forward.

West Texas Energy Technology Initiative Executive Director Stephanie Sparkman of Midland said FutureGen is a national priority and should be above partisan politics.
