Russia earned over $6Bln from arms sales in 2006 - Putin

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Russia earned over $6 billion on arms and military hardware sales abroad in 2006, said President Vladimir Putin.

"We set a new record last year in trading special property and armaments - over $6 billion in sales on the foreign market. This means that the military-industrial complex is developing and everything it has must be used for the needs of the civilian economy," he told a board meeting of the Defense Ministry.

"As for making the economy innovative and using the possibilities of the military industrial complex in this sphere, this is not an imaginary objective. Suffice it to look at how our foreign economic operations have been developing in this sphere," Putin said.
