I was horrified by the things Walter E. Williams was saying on Rush's show today
Edited on Sat Feb-17-07 12:54 AM by Quixote1818
I caught several minutes of the show and Walter E.Williams was in for Rush. He started talking about how his wife had to obey him and that the husband was in charge and kept quoting the Bible on the roll of women in the household. He even said that his wife should treat him like Jesus!!!! Then someone called in who I think might have been a liberal caller setting him up and asked him what he did for his wife on Valentines day. He said, "I don't normally give the help anything because I don't believe in spoiling them (or something similar to this) but this year I gave her some roses." I got the impression he had to say he gave her something because he was kind of stumbling around.

This was NOT satire!!!! He was giving the audience advice on how to make your marriage last and people calling in were acting as if what he was saying was absolutely normal. He positively called his wife "the help" and meant it as though she was something not much more than the maid. He talked about how good looking he was and referred to himself as a black Tom Cruise.

Can someone stream this???? Where can I get the transcript???? It's a classic! I have never heard anything like this in my life!

This should be on every liberal blog in the country! We need to take this and run with it!

1. As long his wife gets to call him "the asshole" I'm fine with it.
:P

2. They cater to a low brow audience. This sort of thing appeals
to that crowd.

3. Republican women are into the abused wife syndrome
Their chosen party and religion endorse this sickness.

Women are only birth receptacles showing the prowess of the man.

6. Yet, Republicans show this guy upmost esteem
Very disturbing that these men and their wives would submit to third world/Taliban behavior,

5. I've heard this before
He supposedly expects his wife to refer to him as "Mr.Williams" or "Dr.Williams"

I don't believe it. Sounds like bar room bluster.

7. He writes for "Capitalist Magazine"
Here's the link to the start of his article list - quite a prolific, er, gentleman.
http://www.capmag.com/author.asp?page=1&order=&name=15

A quote from one of his article about the sissification of the U.S. - I wouldn't worry, though, our side calls it feminization. /snark about that remark

It's simple: We've become a nation increasingly ruled by emotions and feelings -- in a word, feminized. Men and women have different psychological make-ups. Women tend to be more nurturing, sensitive and submissive. They demonstrate greater feelings of love and tend to exhibit grief to a greater extent than men. On the other hand, men tend to be more competitive, aggressive and hostile than women.

Female characteristics are vital to a well-ordered society, for they exert a civilizing influence. I'd never want to live in a society where women didn't have a major role in the rearing of children and management of the household. However, sensitivity, nurturing and a capacity to exhibit grief are not the best characteristics for political leadership. link

14. But if she did, he'd enjoy it.
Why am I not sure at all that I'm joking? And that this would never be the case?

*sigh*

10. If my wife treated me like that I'd dump her
We've been married 45 years and I don't think I could tolerate anybody that fucking stupid that long. I had a job where I supervised a lot of people and a certain number of them spent a lot of effort sucking up. It would've been real easy for me to get to think I was hot shit, but she has always been able to keep my feet on the ground. She doesn't cut me a lot of slack and unfortuantely my personality is such that I don't cut her much either. I think Dr Mr Williams has a lot of anxiety about his role as "head of the household" if he needs this constant reassurance that he indeed posesses male genitalia.

13. He does not want a wife, he wants a robot or a step-ferd wife
If his wife ever stood up to him he would be like all the lost husbands in the movie Pleasantville.

17. This is actually a standard position within parts of the fundamentalist community
It is based on the notion that the man is to be the head of the household as Jesus is the head of the Church. This is spelt out in 1 Cor 11:3

11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

And it is reiterated in Ephesians 5:22-23

5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

This was a position strongly promoted by the group The Promise Keepers.
