Speak The Truth
Edited on Sat Feb-17-07 02:34 AM by MoseyWalker
for the 2008 elections?

I don't think the major ones have to do with gays, or Lieberman, or false quotes from Lincoln.

I could be wrong, but isn't this all just distractions for single minded issue voters to hone in on, much as the single issue voters on the other side do the same,

and find reasons to dissuade, and separate, and minimize the true messages?

Does no one ever get tired of the superficial and strive to seek the true meaning?

Have we as a country sunk so low intellectually that we can't even debate an election that doesn't occur for 18 months without looking into false psychological profiles of candidates; have to fight verbally against childish and schoolyard thinking?

What are the true issues to be debated?

Who would be the best candidate to lead us forward?

The wars. The needs of the needy. Those without health care who are dying needlessly. The hungry and undereducated children.

I have a difficult time reading DU sometimes these days, because it seems that so much of it is taken up with posts to refute lies. Well. The lies have been there for a long, long time.

It is time to speak the truth, be proud, and be goddamned loud about it.

Just my thoughts.

3. or maybe people need to be reminded of...
President Eisenhower's farewell address, perhaps the most prescient presidential speech ever.

4. Text of President Eisenhower's farewell address
There is a lot to be learned from history.

I think the two speeches go hand in hand.

2. so
If a gay, black Jewish Lieberman said he wanted to see the troops lockstep their way to Tehran, would this be news?

What else is important these days, other than a semi-whore who was a celebrity?

I'm getting lost in all the confusion about what is important.

We are not going to elect a dem candidate for a hell of a long time, but now seems to be the time to bitch about all of them. It makes no sense to me.

6. "The wars. The needs of the needy. Those without health care who are dying needlessly. . .
The hungry and undereducated children." . . . are all critical issues, to be sure . . .

but the one overriding issue that trumps all others is the environment, and the devastation that humankind has inflicted (and continues to inflict) on our home . . .

the glaciers are melting . . . the honey bees are dying . . . the ocean is a sewer . . . fish stocks are nearing extinction . . . species of all kinds -- land, air, and water -- are also nearing extinction . . . and on, and on, and on . . .

and no one in power is willing to face the problems and DO something to halt the devastation, stem the damage, and prevent similar occurances in the future . . .

because DOING something might impact corporate profits . . . and piss off the contributors, don'tcha know . . .

speak the truth, indeed . . . and the truth is we are killing ourselves and our planet . . . and no one seems to care . . .
