Pakistan urges NATO, US to do more against Taliban
NATO and US forces in Afghanistan must match Pakistan's commitment to preventing the cross-border infiltration of Taliban militants, a Pakistani provincial governor said.

Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai, the governor of North West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan, spoke out in response to repeated accusations that Pakistan is failing to crack down on militants based in its territory.

"We are doing the best we can, but we expect reciprocity from our coalition partners," Aurakzai, a retired army general, told foreign journalists at his official residence in the provincial capital Peshawar.

The governor said Pakistan had 1,000 military posts along the mountainous 2,500-kilometre (1,550-mile) frontier with Afghanistan, compared with around 100 NATO and US-led coalition posts on the other side.

"Why are they (NATO and US forces) sitting 30 or 40 kilometres away from the border?" Aurakzai said.

1. Exactly, escalate U.S. troop involvement along Afghanistan/Pakistan
...border, send billions of dollars in corruption money while Pakistan gives further aid and shelter to other terrorist groups. Perpetual war, the PNAC way!

2. They created the Taliban
Now the buzzards are coming home to roost

Suicide blast kills 15 in southwest Pakistan
-snip-

Pakistani security forces are already on a high alert in the wake of a wave of terrorist attacks.
The Quetta blast was the 6th attack in the past month. The deadliest previous attack was in Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province which also borders Afghanistan, where a suicide bomber killed 15 people, mainly police officers.

A day before the Peshawar blast a bomber blew himself up at the Marriott hotel in Islamabad on January 26, killing a guard.

Another bomber killed a policeman in the tribal town of Dera Ismail Khan on January 29. And a suicide car bomber killed two soldiers in the remote town of Tank this month.

Early this month an extremist blew himself up with a hand grenade after a gunbattle with police at Islamabad airport.

Most of the attacks have been blamed on Taliban militants fighting security forces in the Waziristan tribal belt bordering Afghanistan.

imo, most of the attacks can be traced back to the ISI itself for creating and cultivating the monster in their lawless provinces.

3. Can't. Bogged down in Iraq.
Junior's adventure is consuming our resources. And we're calling Iraq part of the war of terror, as we neglect the war on terror in Afghanistan. I wonder just how many times people in the Cheney Administration have used Iraq and Al Qaida in the same sentence. About as many times as dollars we've wasted there, I'll bet.

4. Gates seeks Pakistan's help for Nato offensive
-snip-
Gates' remarkable 30-hour side trip for a one-hour visit with Musharraf appeared to be an attempt at delicate diplomacy. It followed Gates' January trip to Afghanistan, where American commanders informed him militant attacks from Pakistan into Afghanistan had surged. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Gates_seeks_Pakistans_help_for_Nato_offensive/articleshow/1601180.cms

Musharraff wants NATO to do more against the Taliban...but do not enter Pakistan's border region....
I wonder what he will say or do if another attempt is made on his life.

hmmm
btw,
anybody know who will take over Pakistan if Musharraf is incapacitated ?
Maybe there are "talks" going on behind closed doors with the various # 2's in line to run Pakistan.
just saying

..gives a whole to spin to a "spring offensive" doesn't it.

6. What? Pakistan is the one supporting Taliban
They used Taliban to create foot soldiers against Indian military in Kashmir. Taliban was created by Pakistan, and they still want them.
