Today Al Hubbard, chairman of President Bush’s National Economic Council, announced his resignation. Trent Lott and Denny Hastert did just recently. The list of Republicans bailing on BushCo is growing longer than the Titanic passenger manifest.
Don't believe it for a second. None of these guys suddenly woke up to the calamity that has become the Republican party. They not woefully anticipating a election-day referendum which will forever send them into obscurity. They're counting on it. They expect it. They're counting on it to help rebuild their fortunes.
You'd have to have just fallen off the proverbial turnip truck to not realize the dire straights this country is in. Essentially, we're fucked. The shit that is about to go down over the next few years as a result of Bush's policies will be nothing short of epic. Hardship and chaos for millions in ways we've simply not seen in our lifetimes.
Democrats spent the first four years of Bush's reign decrying the "It's Clinton's fault!" battle cry of the GOP. EVERYTHING bad was Clinton's fault and we stepped right up at every turn and told them to "get over it." We told them that as the leadership party, they owned the mess.
So...what do you think will happen after January 2009 and the democrats control virtually everything as a result of the GOP's false attritions and the public's desperate desire for change? The eventual impact of Bush's off-budget war spending and unchecked militarism and corporate love-making will finally find there way to the surface under democratic leadership. And you can bet every last worthless dollar you have that every GOP pundit and BushCo enabler will be on every "news" program and talking head show telling the democrats to "get over it...you own it now...why haven't you done anything?"
That will set up the meme for 2012. That just like the Democratic Congress under Reid and Pelosi, the new democratic leadership has been hapless, helpless and ineffectual, and has brought the country economic hardship where Bush once boasted (falsly, of course, but no one ever asked questions) historically low unemployment and inflation and a nation giddy with prosperity.
It's coming. Count on it. They're looking to hand of their baton of failure to the Democrats so that we can be blamed for losing the sure-thing they had put in place. That's why they continually, shamelessly lie about the state of the economy and the war. Because all they have to do is hold out until we take over. Then BOOM...it's up to us to stop blaming the past administration and simply "get over it."
