Important Question...Please take a moment...
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 02:06 PM by lala_rawraw
Click on either of these two links and tell me if you have problems accessing the pages, such as "page not found" etc. If you do have problems, please note who your ISP is. Thanks:)

##

If you have ATT or BellSouth, please try this and also the Google cache.

If you don't have those ISPs, see about the Google cache.

I could not load both either from my two computers or from my neighbor's machine. We have the same ISP. I tried to get the google cache, but it too is missing.

22. It looks like Google hasn't cached those pages.
There doesn't appear to be a Google cache for either page, so I doubt that the lack of a cache is a problem with your ISP.

35. How often they cache would depend on how often they spider a site.
I would imagine that a news site like rawstory would be spidered daily. I don't know all of the details about how they decide whether or not to cache.

It looks like the second link hasn't even been indexed yet. The first one is indexed but with no cache.

A website can put things in the page or the headers that tell search engines not to cache pages. Do you know whether or not rawstory does anything like that?

33. Do try the usual measures
Clear cookies and cache, history. Scandisk. Defrag. Run anti-spyware programs. Check firewall settings. Also, use this baby. It fixes a lot of bugs:

http://www.ccleaner.com/download

In addition, my former dial-up ISP used to block certain sites on port 80. Only it didn't do it when I used Firefox.

Just throwing ideas out there for ya.

Tried every measure I could think of, including cleaning cache, defrag, rebooting, same issue. On both machines and neighbor. I will try that baby you got there...maybe that will work. But how would it be possible for a bug to be in two separate homes?

37. I would have to be sitting in front of your machines to find out
But most definitely use that software. They don't call it crap cleaner for nothing. You might also want to try looking at the programs that autostart when you boot up. There is a program called XTEQ that allows you to tweak hidden files and programs, including auto-loading programs. As well I like HiJackThis because it kills Browser Helper Objects. HiJackThis is free but XTEQ cost money now. Although, if you wish I can arrange for you to download an older, free version ;)

and sure, any software would be great... i did download that cleaner, but since the power came on, i can access the two pages (strange, though).

53. Hey, sometimes a reboot is all it takes
I'm not a true geek, I just play one on the Interwebs. I am not skilled or knowledgible enough to tell you how to detect true spying. I would definitely check to see if any rootkits or keyloggers are installed. Your firewall should protect you from most physical attempts to scan your machine. Truth is, there's a lot of adware/spyware/malware out there and there's are new variants made every day.

In fact, I had to clean my Linux PC of cookies because RawStory displayed a kinda scary geo-targeted ad. I may have picked the bug up from another site and it kicked in when I visited Raw. Does RawStory take ads from Dick Blick Art supplies? Not accusing, just curious.

I'm thinking there's some new, hellish Flash exploits out there that are screwing with my browser.

As far as that program, I will PM you with a link.

55. Not likely.
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 05:24 PM by drm604
It's more likely that the computers rebooting fixed something. Either that or it was some sort of net glitch that coincidentally was fixed during the time the power was out. Or maybe there was some kind of page or address caching going on somewhere.

Anyway, glad to hear that it's working now. I was pretty sure that it wasn't some kind of conspiracy, but these days I can't blame you for being a little suspicious.
