Freepers are about to lose it over Bank of America giving credit cards
to undocumented immigrants. Saw it on Faux Snooze and the freeper boards are exploding over this today.

Seems to me that Bank of America is a business and as long as they are obeying the law, they can give a credit card to anyone they want.

Also I doubt US citizens are the only people who have credit cards. If an undocumented immigrant is apprehended by ICE, and they have a credit card in their wallet, should they have to prove they were not in the US when they got the credit card??

I am not a banker, so help me out here, but do banks ask for citizenship info before processing credit card applications? Should they? I mean, as long as the person holding the credit card pays the bill, why should the bank care where they live or if they are a US citizen?

I know we have had some heated immigration discussions here, but this just strikes me as a pretty silly thing to complain about.

5. Well tell them good luck BofA could care less if they boycott!
BofA is just like alomst every other company in the USA and the world for that matter. All they care about is extracting as much money out of people whomever they are as possbile.

money is money no matter how you get it.

Thats the GOP way!

6. Apply for a credit card, get a knock on the door from INS?
Seems like an awfully convenient way of collecting data on illegal immigrants. I wouldn't trust BofA, a big Rethuglican contributor, if I were an illegal...

28. Not to sound snarky
Because I'm really not, and this is not intended that way Do you have a link describbing these terms. I would love to read them.

What I read is that all that was needed as ID was a tax payer ID number, not a SS#.

29. If they aren't a US citizen, they probably don't have a SS number
But if they have a tax payer ID number, they probably pay taxes, true?

So tax payers are getting plastic cards from BoA after making a cash deposit. And they can't spend more than they deposited.

I honestly don't understand the righteous indignation over this.

31. I heard the guy from BofA describing them on CNN
He said these were intended as an "entry" into banking. Lots of these people are afraid of filling out all the paperwork necessary for a bank account, and with these cards it's "like" a bank account, since it's their own money being "borrowed"...and it helps them establish credit that they might not have otherwise been able to have , since they had no banking history.

19. I like this move by BoA
http://www.dailytech.com/Bank+of+America+Offers+Employees+3000+Reimbursment+For+Buying+a+Hybrid/article6095c.htm

Charlotte, NC-based Bank of America (BoA) is encouraging the use of more fuel efficient vehicles by its employees. BoA employees who purchase a new hybrid vehicle will now be eligible for a $3,000 reimbursement from the company.

The program was first started in mid-2006 for 21,000 employees living in and around banking centers in Boston, Charlotte and Los Angeles. The program has now been opened up to BoA's entire US workforce of over 185,000 employees.

23. Freepers with their capitalism have no right to complain about that!
This is one things that stops freepers in their tracks and proves them racist.

If you follow their logic, a US citizen has the right to hire whomever they please and do business with whomever they please.

I have asked countless freepers why their version of capitalism does not allow me to hire whoever I want to hire who is willing to work for me. They NEVER answer. They can't.

they would be doing immigrants a favor if they didn't give them cards--like Tony Soprano keeping you out of the poker game.
