2008 Democratic Primary: Has there ever been this many great candidates?
And I bet there are some heavyweights that haven't even announced yet! Has there ever been a primary this loaded before?

1. Some UK columnist called it an "enthralling" race. I agree...
There are so many good candidates it's hard to choose a favorite yet. This is what is known as an embarrassment of riches -- and I feel as if we are really lucky.

Our biggest challenge is to remember that ALL Democrats need us to watch their backs -- to avoid believing or spreading RW rumors about them, as has already happened more than once here.

2. I'll tell you one thing
They're all running GREAT campaigns. Hell, I'm starting to like Hillary, and I would NEVER vote for Hillary (in a primary). Easily the most exciting primary of my lifetime so far, although I'm only 23, but I have lived though some good primaries (Van Hollen vs. Shriver)

3. The Dems have had great candidates for a long time now.
Ever hear of Max Cleland, the decorated Vietnam War vet? Ever hear of Mondale in MN? Strickland in CO? How about John Kerry? These and many others are great Dems, yet they lost largely or to a considerable degree because of the voting machines and nobody (or very few) came to their defense, even when the results were so skewed as to defy all reason, and this was all over the country mind you, just in 2002. There are, I bet, literally hundreds of other races where the likelihood is much greater that the Dem won than the Repub, but nobody bothered to audit the vote or recount or even question it.

4. We had great candidates in 2004
Dean, Edwards, Kerry, Clark, - Gephardt, Sharpton, Mosley-Braun, Kucinich, - I'd take the top four from 2004 over the top four now, in an instant.

5. Half of the top 4 (Edwards and Clark) are back again, as are Kucinich and Sharpton
Plus, Edwards is much more well-known now than he was then. Added to that are heavyweights Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and I have a feeling we might see Al Gore before it's over!

6. Clark announced?
I hadn't heard that, or Sharpton either. I'd still take Dean, Clark and Kerry over Hillary and Obama any day. Even though I don't think any of them, or Gore, will run. We have an okay field, not sure we can win with any of them yet.

7. I'm not sure if it's official, but at the last DFA meetup I went to
they played excerpts from where 2008 Presidential hopefuls were speaking, and Clark was one of them.
