Hardaway agrees to spend day with Miami's gay mayor
http://www.azstarnet.com/sports/169754

MIAMI — As the firestorm continued over Tim Hardaway's antigay remarks on radio, the mayor of North Miami, who is gay, invited the ex-Heat star to spend a day with him.
On Friday, Hardaway accepted, the mayor said.

"We're just trying to show him that there are living, breathing people that just happen to be gay," said North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns, who lives with his partner of 23 years and an adopted daughter.
He's still working out details of the visit with Hardaway's representatives and expects they will make a joint announcement on Monday, Burns said.

The plan is for Hardaway to join Burns and his family for a routine weekday at the mayor's office and home — doing things like dropping off Burns' child at school, meeting with constituents, and dinner with the family.

1. And after that, a night on the town!
"The plan is for Hardaway to join Burns and his family for a routine weekday at the mayor's office and home — doing things like dropping off Burns' child at school, meeting with constituents, and dinner with the family.

Afterwards, Hardaway will accompany the mayor to the city's hottest nightspot, Chaps 'n Buckles, for an evening of dancing and light S&M."

Hey, I know that's what *I* do every night. Hardaway's such an ass. I hope they drop him in the fucking ocean.

18. Well, let's look at what he said about me . . .
''Well, you know I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States. So yeah, I don't like it.''

So, I "shouldn't be in the United States" huh? And you begrudge me dropping him in the ocean? Sounds like that's what he'd want to do to me.

Because sex is the only thing the members of the "GLBT group" are interested in. We're all a bunch of sex-crazed maniacs, don't you know.

:banghead:

The secret homophobia on DU is shameful.

13. Why do you take a situation
about a bigot and the disgraceful remarks he made and try to to turn it into a juvenile slap against all gay folks?

This guy is going to be educated about their FAMILY. Two long term partners and their little girl.

This is no more about their sex lives than it would be about a hetero couple's sex life if the situation was reversed.

6. Why waste time on the bastard, he is homophobic and a hate
monger. He spoke his mind and what he felt in his rotten core. The only reason he is doing this is because he is losing $$$$ everyday.

The only good thing about this is that the truth is out.

7. I don't have a problem with it. He learned to hate so why can't he unlearn to hate?
I think this is a great idea.

8. You are right that one can unlearn a behavior...
but if the only reason he is willing to hang out with the Mayor is to rehabilitate his basketball legacy and to try and recoup his $$$$ lost endorsements, is he being sincere?

11. Nope
this makes the story about how rock solid a lot of gay families are. It couldn't be a better move.

10. Brilliant move by the mayor
It makes the Mayor and his partner look charitable, giving and wise.

IN other words, the gay family looks like it has the real family values, while the homophobe looks like simpering, whining idiot.

Turns the entire story around.

14. I could give a rat's ass about the motives of the homophobe
What this does is make the dynamics of the story about the good, giving, American gay family and the ugly bigot that they deigned to redeem.

15. So you know him personally? His statements were clear.
Some of us prefer not to be part of the dog and pony show that is the restoration of someone like him.

this will resonate with a lot of people and also gives the power to the gay family. Hardaway can go live in Iraq for all I care. I love that they're using a vicious homophobe to score a media coup for American gay families.
