New Life Shooter - Did Church Leaders Search his Room and Destroy Evil Influences?

Using the pen name "Christnghtmr," the user described going to a charismatic conference at New Life with his mother.

"I got into a debate with two prayer team staff members," he wrote. "These two staff members watched me throughout the conference to find out who I was with. They found my mother and told her this story that went something along the lines of I "wasn't walking with the lord and could be planning violence."

Murray's mother, Loretta Murray, said through a spokeswoman that there was no such incident involving two church staff members.

After the conference, the user said his mother and a pastor searched his room for "anything evil," including video games and a DVD collection.

"After that incident my mother searched my room for the next 3 months EVERY SINGLE DAY. After that I decided it was over, that I had had it with christianity."

Maybe these are his wacky delusions or lies - but from what I've read of New Life I certainly believe it could've happened. It doesn't excuse Murray going on a rampage - but could certainly explain his deep-seated anger. If this happened to me I'd be pissed!

I really hope a good journalist digs deep in to this case. Something triggered this kid. I'm not excusing him, just wondering if there was more to the story than his mental illness.

1. I agree
I told my husband the night it happened that I wouldn't be surprised if someone at New Life (possibly Haggard himself) had sexually abused the kid. He went off because he was kicked out of the missionaries. There had to be a reason why he went off at New Life Church specifically. It's not like there aren't other mega-churches in Colorado for him to go on a rampage against.
