And even then, it was something that I used only as a last resort.

As for shrooms, I was curious about them because I had read psychedelics can help with PTSD and can simulate a near-death experience, so I grew my own (past tense--and I would never sell them), tried them and that's the end of that story. I guess I was successfully brainwashed with the 'Just Say No To Drugs' campaign, or just don't have the mind that can handle this stuff. I don't regret having tried them, though, and think they should be legalized though regulated. I see what coke does to people--they pretty much become self-important asshats. I prefer the music, art and philosophy that comes from the psychedelic culture, but I don't believe you necessarily have to be a regular imbiber, or even imbibe at all to get it.

PS the sad part is that I'm actually telling the truth. It was a clear summer night in the spring of 1992. I was dating the Wicked Witch of the Pacific Northwest, and had gotten into a huge fight with her on account of my having been drug targeted by my friend Jim, who made the mistake of offering me all the hash I could smoke in one sitting. It wasn't my fault. No one can turn down an offer like that. We ended up taking a bunch of acid that I'd found in my wallet and then drinking a seemingly endless supply of those horrible frozen banana rum drinks. Everything was fairly normal until the neighbors banged on the front door (by that point it was somewhere around 3 am), in search of ammonia and a working stove. They had some powdered coke and wanted to cook it up into freebase chunks by carefully boiling it in ammonia. At that point in my life, since they suggested such a horrible thing, I was more than happy to invite them into my home. For my troubles, they gave me a couple of fat rails and a few chunks of awful-looking yellowish crud which I hoovered and smoked respectively. It had absolutely no effect on me.

Depending on your brain chemistry, antidepressants can knock you out (it inhibits or disinhibits something). Ritalin was actually developed as a stimulant to prevent narcolepsy (falling asleep at random times), but it calms kids with certain brain chemistries down.
