Burton Snowboards is crying discrimination

because 4 ski areas in the country don't allow boarders. It's partly tongue in cheek and partly serious. Burton is offering a $5000 dollar purse for the best video of someone "poaching" at one of those five ski areas.

As a long time skier, who's had a couple of nasty brushes with boarders, I say more power to Mad River Glen and the other 3 areas in keeping a few places for skiers only.

1. Is Keystone, Colorado still one of them?

I skied there several times in the 90's and they didnt allow snowboards back then.

I wonder if they still dont.

At Alta I think the ban makes sense as boarders would be hiking a LOT. There are some long cat tracks to get between different sections of the resort. And cry me a flippin' river, it's not like they can't go down the road 15 miles and hit Snowbird. The tram is better than any lift at Alta and the 'bird has more steep terrain. Or the other canyon over, there's Brighton which is predominantly populated by boarders.

Damn new fangled contraptions. Telemark skiing is the only real skiing.

it's so beautiful. I'll have to stick with my fixed heel bindings and shaped 160s.

8. I skied X-country for years before doing any downhill

Never did take to it. Wish we still got decent snow in the DC area.

9. I've been skiing

almost my entire life (since I was 6) Took up x-country after downhill, but I love that too. I started my son skiing at 2 and a half. He's amazing.

Skiers not looking where they're going and skiing out of control, snowboarders cutting all the way across the hill with no warning, and then there were the drunks.

I figure we can all share the hill as long as everyone's respectful about it. Here in Michigan, our runs are short and often a wee bit treacherous (we'll ski on anything--straw, ice, whatever), so keeping that in mind and everyone being respectful of the others on the hill should work.

I'm hoping I can get on the slopes this season. I was planning on it last year, but surgery prevented it. Now that the kids are older and I'm more healed up, I'd love to get out there.
