Poll question: Who can win the General Election?
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 10:33 AM by MassDemm
Who do you think the republicans will have a harder time against?

Be honest, don't just vote for your candidate.

I am only posting three options because I don't believe the the others have a chance of winning in the primaries.

on edit:

Seems people want me to put an all of the above, but I won't, because I believe all of them have weaknesses that could hurt them in a general.

I want to know which of these three candidates has the least baggage and will give the republicans less openings.

5. The Democrats would need to defeat themselves next year -- and they can.
Every one of the candidates - including Gravel - COULD win. The single largest threat is (as usual these days) the corporatist 'moderates' (e.g. Blue Dogs and DLC) who constantly threaten to hold their breath (and turn blue) unless "one of theirs" is nominated. It's ironic that they then ALSO demean the 'leftist' base of the Party for even hinting at turning their backs on a corporatist candidate - a tactic used against the MAJORITY of the Party base for two decades, now.

The 2008 election is the Dems' to lose.

6. Edwards can end the Republican's Southern Strategy.
With some exceptions for the truly insane, Edwards can deliver The South. And "We" need to **care** about The South more than we do.

7. Any of 'em.
There's enough anti-GOP outrage in the nation that any Democrat can win who shows the courage to reject corporate fascism unambiguously.

The same ol' same o' is probably good enough, though.

8. Edwards IMO by far is has the greatest chance against all the Repigs
He is OK with me...and I do like him. However, I really, really am not that enthusiastic about any of the Dems running...but, of course, will vote for whatever Dem heads the ticket next November. Hands down, all of the Dems are far, far better than the pieces of crap on the Repiggie side.

10. If the Dems can't beat the Repugs next year they should look for other work.
The can only lose if they persist in making themselves look like Republicans and give the voters a tweedle dum/tweedle dee choice.

11. Even Mike Gravel could win with the right packaging.
America is sick of the neocons. It's entirely the Dem's race to lose.

12. What's the obsession with "winning"?
It's not if you win or lose it's how you play the game...

Wouldn't you rather make an important "statement", even if it means losing the election yet again?

Let's back the Nader candidate all over again... Nothing important is at stake it is?

:sarcasm:

14. Edwards couldn't even carry his home state with Kerry
I don't think Edwards has the charisma needed to win. Although his anti-corporate message might sell in the midwest, I don't think it will sell as well elsewhere. Obama would be a great candidate against Huckabee or Romney, but Hillary would be best against Giuliani.

18. yes, and Gore lost Tennessee in 2000.
The bottom line is that any Democrat has a slim to none chance of winning any state in the South, except maybe Arkansas.

15. Its going to take an outsider this time: Edwards
The hothouse that is the DC bubble has left any incumbent candidate weak and vulnerable. If the Dem controlled Congress had a better record, they would stand a chance. But all the mealy mouthed appeasement, inaction, and overall ennui in Congress will hurt Obama, Clinton, Dodd and Biden.

16. Edwards
for a variety of reasons, some of which are not too savory. That doesn't mean I think the other two couldn't win, or that Edwards necessarily would. The Dems are expert at pulling defeat from the jaws of victory. (Excuse the cliche...)

Out of the "top 3" he will get my vote, if Kucinich drops out.
