Bush Proposes Repealing Golden Rule
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 03:11 PM by gulliver
Washington DC.-- President George W. Bush, accompanied by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Vice President Dick Cheney, today announced a proposal that would effectively repeal the Golden Rule.

"Not doing to others what you wouldn't want them doing to you was the way things used to work. Then 911 taught us that this is a dangerous world filled with killers who are out to kill us. I won't allow that on my watch. My job is to protect the American people, and that is what I intend to do," said the President.

"The so-called 'Golden Rule' has for too long tied the hands of our government in protecting its citizens. Also, the Golden Rule makes it nearly impossible to conduct business internationally, particularly in the energy sector. For individual American citizens, the Golden Rule is a restraint on liberty, nothing less than a creeping, gathering assault on our freedoms and way of life."

Bush announced that beginning in January 2008, he and his administration would begin the process of repealing the Golden Rule. Bush himself plans a series of speeches to run through mid-November.

"Let's see if the Democrats in Congress want to continue to bind the hands of the American people," said Bush. "There's an election coming, and they will have a chance to try to make their case to voters. This election is about putting country before an obsolete, self-defeating sentiment. Do the American people want safety and jobs, or do they want words? The Democrats will have to decide which side they are on."

...story continues how...

ON EDIT: The above is definitely satire. I don't know that Bush intends to repeal the Golden Rule explicitly. It's implicit. But how would the story above continue? What would the MSM do with it? What would their headlines be?

2. "I won't allow that on my watch" A little late, there sparky. I DID happen on
your watch. And you spend several vital minutes posing for photos after being informed of such.

5. Suspending the Golden Rule also is allowing for torture and no adherence to Geneva Conventions
And, it is sure to backfire on our troops, as well as our citizens should Hr. Asshat decide it's time for Martial Law.

13. That's OK
Satire and reality are way too close to one another with these guys. IMO, Bush et al have just about repealed the Golden Rule in reality. Peace.

10. The so-called fiction continues....

The curiosity in the repeal of policy proposed, was the advice given to citizens, "All citizens are advised to continue to follow the Golden Rule, as it helps lubricate peaceful relations. All citizens deciding to defraud or otherwise hurt other citizens as a result of this repeal are reminded that the full force of law enforcement will be used to keep law and order, up to and including abandoned military encampments." The words were a reminder to citizens only elected leaders will be allowed to break the golden rule without sanction, everyone else must continue to follow it.

14. He's not repealing it, he's replacing it.
The new Golden Rule is:

He who has the gold makes the rules...
