Opening Statements by Fitzgerald, excerpted from Firedoglake blog.
This case is about how the defendant obstructed the investigation. He appeared before a federal Grand Jury in this court house. He took an oath and then violated that oath repeatedly. The evidence will show that the defendant lied repeatedly both to the FBI and the Grand Jury.
He discussed with Plame with multiple officials. He talked to more than one reporter about Wilson's wife working at CIA. He gave information to WH press secretary. When the GJ asked questions, the defendant lied. Libby had a chance to tell the truth.
"The truth would be" he had a conversation about Plame and Wilson with Cheney, Grossman, Grenier, Schmall, Martin, Ari, , Addington, Cooper.
The defendant knowingly and intentionally lied. The defendant is not charged with having a bad memory. The defendant knowingly lied. . He made up a story. He told the story that he wasn't relying on any of the information he heard from government officials. He relied on information he got from reporters.
