sigh... I'm THIS close to speaking with a hero of mine....
my brother just phoned me. He's playing poker at the Hustler club in LA.

Larry Flynt is at the next table - I BEGGED him to let me talk to Larry, but my bro was too shy to approach him (plus Flynt has a security detail).

He promised me that if he gets to Larry's table, he'll call me and let me try to talk to him.

5. His book: SEX, LIES & POLITICS The Naked Truth...
is a great read. It skewers the right wing nicely and from a VERY unique perspective. Mr. Flynt is one of my heroes also.

Here is something of note from the back cover of his book:

"Tough, funny, profane, sensible, and full of terrific information. I am one feminist who thinks this is a man who has literally put his life into the First Amendment and gets it in a more profound way than many constitutional scholars" -Molly Ivins

I hope you get a chance to speak with this living American Patriot. If he lived in a different time I am willing to bet he and Ben Franklin would have been close friends

6. I don't have that book...
but I'd love to own it. I have the special magazine he published during the Clinton impeachment, showing all the infidelities of his prosecutors.

I understand that his depiction of women is problematic. But his battle for free speech trumps it all.

7. It's from '03 but still relevant today
I am no book critic but I know what I like. Mr Flynt tells it straight and without pulling punches. He calls bush a charlatan and a hustler. Mr. Flynt says he knows a thing or two about hustlers and I for one am in no position to disagree with him. I remember after reading his book I was inspired to call him a hero...been a few years since I read it, if he is my hero then I look forward to the reread of this. That is your fault, I have you to blame for causing me to pull it out of my collection in order to quote Molly Ivins, thanks :patriot:

I suspect that you would get a lot out of it as well. If you came away from his movie with a profound respect for him, (I did), then I know this book will further that respect. I am sure that your local bookstore can get you a copy on backorder...in the meanwhile I got some reading to do. Thanks again MonkeyFunk, for inspiring me to reread Mr. Flynt's wonderful book. :toast:

8. Somebody should give this man a Purple Heart
He fought for freedom, and was shot and paralyzed as a result. If that isn't qualification enough, I don't know what is.
