Send Imus & email on Walter Reed; Republicans are guilty too
I sent him one and said this is not a dem or republican issue but a horrible statement of how we are taking care of our troops. The republicans have been in power for the last several years and this did not develop overnight so the dems are not solely responsible for this.

Quit trying to protect your friend Lieberman and name some republicans as well as dems.

4. DUer calimary sized the situation up nicely here (and I did write to Imus):
And, frankly, I think we need to put the heat SQUARELY on the republi-CONS, who sat on this the ENTIRE TIME THEY CONTROLLED BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS. There will be scores of attempts made to spread the blame. Well, I got news for our "news" media (or is that NOISE media?): The Democrats have been in power on Capitol Hill for roughly a big, fat MONTH AND A HALF. THIS DISGRACE DIDN'T JUST SUDDENLY HAPPEN OVER THAT SMALL WINDOW OF TIME, YANNO??? The republi-CONS let this go on, unquestioned, uninvestigated, un-everything'ed, ever since our wounded started returning from the war. Our wounded. The "lucky" ones.

12. Thanks - it NEEDS to be pointed out: Our guys have been in control
Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 08:39 AM by calimary
for about A MONTH AND A HALF.

NONE of this just suddenly, mysteriously happened in that short span of time. This has gone on A LOT longer than that - ALL THROUGH THE TIME THE BAD GUYS HELD ALL THE POWER, AND...

DID NOTHING.

SAID NOTHING.

QUESTIONED NOTHING.

INVESTIGATED NOTHING.

AND, did EVERYTHING in their power to QUASH ANYONE's efforts on our side to try EVEN TO START getting to the bottom - of ANYTHING!!!

BTW: here are some TOLL FREE Capitol Hill switchboard numbers, in these threads:

in POWER; WE did not flood WR with MAIMED soldiers from Iraq; WE have not been the ones refusing to clean up these places.

So what's with the weak "not SOLELY" responsible?? how about: NOT RESPONSIBLE, PERIOD.

9. Or we could stop listening to or giving a damn about Imus?
Honestly. If we're serious about this issue (or any issue that comes up on his or any other talk show) what we'd do is either make donations to groups that help the issue, or donate things to these hospitals, or e-mail the congresspeople or politicians or hospital administrators that can actually do something about the problem. I'm not trying to be a dick, but if we have time to spare in our lives on the subjects, wouldn't it be better directed at the problem itself rather than what Imus says about the problem?

14. Imus has a huge audience, so when he says something that needs to
be said, I have to give him props for that because he's educating people who may not have heard about this.
He's also a big advocate of vets, wounded soldiers, etc., and recently solicited funds to build a rehab place in San Antonio (called The Intrepid, I think) so he's aware of the challenges vets face. He was blown away by this story, knew nothing about Bldg. 18, and is as outraged as we are.
I look forward to him shining a light on this for awhile.

10. Uh, guys, one of the few times I did tune in that self-absorbed old fool
and his no-talent hate brigade, he was blathering on about how management wanted him to read the e-mails and he does every do that. He hates e-mails to the program and doesn't open them.

11. Executive branch runs Walter Reed.
I may have missed something, but despite two fraudulent elections it has been a Republican controlling the executive branch since 1/20/01. How exactly do Democrats share any blame for this mess?

16. And they want to cut the VA budget again
Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 09:56 AM by LiberalEsto
I guess B*sh was worrying that the US government (or what's left of it) was doing too much for America's veterans.

Heaven forbid the feds should provide decent facilities and decent care and benefits to the people who actually went out and fought for Halliburton and oil company profits.

13. OK...Then Democrats Need To Investigate...
I'm impressed with how quickly this story is gaining attention. Anus' reaction is not a bad one as it brings this story to millions of ears that hadn't heard about it yet...it's a first-glance reaction that was more lashing out at ALL politicians....but that will change as he and other read deeper into Dana's story and the many others out there. Most important, there's a light being shone on an issue Democrats can and must take the lead on...taking care of Iraqi vets.

An investigation into the Walter Reed situation surely will be the tip of the iceburg...as a deluge of Repugnican abuses of the military can be brought into the open, and it's not gonna be pretty for the Repugnicans. Try as they may at this point to avoid responsibility for the war, carnage and mess they've created, the more they deny and the more abuses come forward, the angrier people will get...especially the independents and moderates. This is a fight the Repugnicans desperate want to avoid as it destroys any "support our troops" strawman. That's why it's not surprising to see Freeperland go apeshit over Dana Priest rather than the content of what she's uncovered.

Let's open up investigations into how our veterans are being treated. Here's where having subpoena power and chairing committees will be important. While I cringe at yet another example of how our veterans are being spat on by Repugnicans, the fact it's being spoken about means it's affecting a lot of people who are going to want answers to who caused this and why. This is something the Repugnicans REALLY want to avoid.

15. Congress is responsible for oversight
and function of all Governmental Agencies, Depts etc.
Congress is responsible for funding and oversight of Walter Reed.

Republicans have had control of congress for the past 12 years
until recent election.

Republicans are therefore responsible for what happened at WR
in the past 12 years.

Keep in mind if you do not believe in government. If you believe
Government is the problem and not the solution, you render
yourself incapable of governing. Likewise you really cannot
do proper oversight--Yes, the Republicans carry the major
burden for WR.

19. No...they will say Dems Blocked funds in Repug Congress & it goes back to Clinton...
Same old lies and spin. If Imus mentions it again...it will be that Clinton and Dems did it. He's just feigning some shock about it today before he goes with the "Talking Points" later.

Probably better to e-mail MSNBC management than Imus. Don't think he cares for e-mail or what anyone who views or listens to him thinks.
