"Bhutto Report: Musharraf Planned to Fix Elections (planned to reveal evidence)
Bhutto report:
Musharraf planned to fix elections
By Saeed Shah | McClatchy Newspapers
Posted on Monday, December 31, 2007

NAUDERO, Pakistan--The day she was assassinated last Thursday, Benazir Bhutto had planned to reveal new evidence alleging the involvement of Pakistan's intelligence agencies in rigging the country's upcoming elections, an aide said Monday.

Bhutto had been due to meet U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., and Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., to hand over a report charging that the military Inter-Services Intelligence agency was planning to fix the polls in the favor of President Pervez Musharraf.

Safraz Khan Lashari, a member of the Pakistan People's Party election monitoring unit, said the report was "very sensitive" and that the party wanted to initially share it with trusted American politicians rather than the Bush administration, which is seen here as strongly backing Musharraf.

"It was compiled from sources within the (intelligence) services who were working directly with Benazir Bhutto," Lashari said, speaking Monday at Bhutto's house in her ancestral village of Naudero, where her husband and children continued to mourn her death.

The ISI had no official comment. However, an agency official, speaking only on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak on the subject, dismissed the allegations as "a lot of talk but not much substance."

2. This Whole Thing is Such a Terrible Tragedy; What Might Have Been So Great
Yes, I believe Wolf Blitzer on CNN, of all people, has been giving great coverage to this tragic and horrible story of the loss of Benazir Bhutto, treating it with the respect and importance it deserves. Wolf Blitzer also referred to the new evidence Bhutto had, and also made public an e-mail message Bhutto had written a few months ago, to reveal upon her death, that if anything happened, Musharraf did it. The situation in Pakistan has been getting increasingly scary and treacherous for some months now, with Musharraf replacing the whole Supreme Court, "stepping down from" the military, the attack at an earlier Bhutto rally, with no investigation, etc. Then when Bhutto and the other rival leader, Sharif, both returned and planned to work together for checks-and-balances modern democracy, and to get rid of the protected terrorists in the Northwest, there began the excited/happy/fearful/scary prospect that might or might not happen. Many people always believed that this horrific murderer Musharraf, "Bush's friend," would never allow it, it was never going to happen. Pakistan has lost a great deal here, maybe everything--and they know it. This might have been great.

Apart from everything else, it shows you, frighteningly, how the "U.S." media here will repeat, brainlessly, the terrorist Musharaff's bizarre claim that there were no bullet woulnds and that she crushed the top of her skull by grazing along a sunroof opening below her as she fell, and they did not stop this propaganda until the videotape came out! Musharraf refused to protect her, even after the Bhutto campaign begged, and Bush refused protection, too. Evil, disgusting. By the way, going along with the statements by doctors, that they were not allowed to tell about the bullet wounds they all saw, it reminds me of a person I just heard about on CBC (Canadian) news, who was a member of the Pakistan People's Party, but quit and moved to Windsor, Ontario to live, after being threatened years ago by Musharaff's regime, to make up lies about "financial corruption" by Bhutto. I hope they can regroup with Bhutto's husband and son running the Party now, and that they will do what Benazir Bhutto was trying to do.
