Huckabee wants a federal marriage amendment
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 12:06 PM by MrScorpio
I'm looking at this scary fellow on CSPAN right now

Now this is what I don't get, is he saying that he wants gays to marry heterosexually? That's only option for a legal marriage that they would have under such a law. He says that he wants strong families, because they're the backbone of this nation or some such thing.

If gays marry heterosexually wouldn't that, in fact, endanger such marriages because they'd be living a lie? And why would a marriage between two straight people be in jeopardy because gays marry as well?

I saw a tidbit of a show call the History of Sex on the History Channel, where during the Middle Ages, married couples not producing children were induced to have their genitalia inspected by church officials.

From what I can see, just about all of Huckabee's views are rooted in a lot of ancient superstitious beliefs... As if the last few centuries of social and scientific advancement is pretty much irrelevant.

He'd be better off in 17th century Salem vs. 21st century D.C.

4. its republican political strategy
its to get repugs to come to the polls. They are hard to budge from their easy chairs unless you dangle some bigoted or racist bullshit in front of them.

Remember the Schiavo Circus? These are the people he's reaching out to when he makes statements such as this.

People such as that don't tend to make their choices based on presentation of facts and careful thought. They're emotional beings who are easily lead about by their prejudices.

9. ...And the MSM will continue to look the other way as he spews hate.
Millions of Americans will be right behind him, too. He may not have a clue as to how to manage an economy, a military or any other aspect of government, but by golly, at least he'll keep the gays from getting married.

What a tool.

10. Huck is a Southern Baptist. It is interesting that the section of the USA with the highest
percentages of Southern Baptist also have the highest divorce rates. Baptists make up 42.4% of Arkansas’ population and a slightly higher percentage in Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. This region has the highest rate of divorce in the country, with Arkansas being the second highest. If you take a look at domestic violence and children living in abusive situtations, you will also find Arkansas ranking way up there.

Huckabee is frightening because of his religion.

12. I thought he believed in 'state's rights,' instead of dictating things on a ..
federal level.

Oh, that's right, he talks out of both sides of his ... uh ... mouth, just like most of the rightwingers.

16. Riddle me this, Huck
Would you want your daughter to marry a gay man? If not, why not? And why, therefore, would you want other men's daughters to marry gay men?

17. Excellent idea! Here's my suggested marriage amendment:
with the exception of preventing marriage by close relatives, the state shall make no laws restricting the rights of two citizens of sound mind and legal age to enter into or dissolve a contract of marriage in a timely manner.
