8. :-) he spent less than $3 million more than Clinton and grassroots 17 to 29 was why he won - so
the OP's comment seems valid.

Indeed he looks likely to take SC and NH and with 4 weeks of the media telling the nation how great O is and what a loser Hill is, then add in the nightly Leno joke/smear we can expect, I'd say it will be hard for Hill to come back on 2/5. Besides O may not be as "left", but he is by far the better speaker. And he does know how to play down and dirty - a requirement in American politics.

I do not expect that O's "grassroots" - the 17 to 29 folks - are going to change and leave O, so while it will remain an age 18 to 29 turnout question, that youth turnout will be less needed now that the media will be turning up the visibility of their support of O.

6. Ok, I know I have to consider the source, but CNN
just broke out some numbers and if they can be believed ( hey, I said IF)then he carried the young vote and the ones who count (middle age) he barely carried 40%. Now, we all know which demographic votes...so we'll see.

Obama is on CNN now, so I gotta go.

7. Moreover, from Jane Hamsher --> "... if the total number of votes were tallied it actually ...
... would've meant a double-digit lead for Obama.

And ... "People wanted change, and their votes were cast based on who they see as best embodying that change. Obama did a great job energizing the youth vote. But the big winner -- Huckabee. The Republicans are eating their own livers on Fox news over his route. The success of his underdog populism is gonna shake the GOP to its core.

The USofA is in for a class struggle of epic, historical significance and tonight is just the beginning.

15. Arianna Huffington: "Obama Wins Iowa: Why Everyone Has a Reason to Celebrate Tonight"
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 12:45 AM by understandinglife
<clip>

Obama's win might not have legs. Hope could give way to fear once again. But, for tonight at least, it holds a mirror up to the face of America, and we can look at ourselves with pride. This is the kind of country America was meant to be, even if you are for Clinton or Edwards -- or even Huckabee or Giuliani.

It's the kind of country we've always imagined ourselves being -- even if in the last seven years we fell horribly short: a young country, an optimistic country, a forward-looking country, a country not afraid to take risks or to dream big.
