Here is a speech of John Edwards post-caucus, which is a good speech btw. At the bottom at 2:50:

Obama spent 9 million.
Hillary spent 7.2 million.
Edwards spent, in comparison, only 3.2 million.

I would say that's a testament to the appeal of economic populism. This feed was ripped from MSNBC and isn't mine, btw.

1. It's hnot just that he was outspent. The Huckster was
outspent by Mitt by a factor of about 20 to 1- or more.

2. True, but the only Repubs who showed up were the religious right.
They liked Huckster's Baptist preacher background and religious right message.

3. The numbers of Romney and Huckabee from the same feed:
This is about 3:50 into the feed at the bottom of the screen.

Romney spent 7 million on ads.
Huckabee spent 1.4 million on ads.

The numbers speak for themselves, and I don't contest them, but it seems Romney wasn't enough to get out the Repubs who were more moderate. The Repubs are not enthused this year, and a good number stayed home. Huckabee likely only won because he turned out the religious vote.

5. Huckabee got millions worth of free TV. Scanning the dial this past week and a half

I saw Edwards talking exactly once on CSPAN late at night on the 2nd, and I saw his face rarely, and his name was often dropped from the list of the Democratic frontrunners. I saw and heard an awful lot of Huckabee.

4. big media have soured on Edwards and his "harsh anti-corporate rhetoric."
We knew this anyway but it is interesting how they come right out and admit it.....

<snip>

The main causes of John Edwards' biggest problems with the media establishment have been tied in with his firm stands for economic justice instead of corporate power.

Weeks ago, when the Gannett-chain-owned Des Moines Register opted to endorse Hillary Clinton this time around, the newspaper's editorial threw down the corporate gauntlet: "Edwards was our pick for the 2004 nomination. But this is a different race, with different candidates. We too seldom saw the positive, optimistic campaign we found appealing in 2004. His harsh anti-corporate rhetoric would make it difficult to work with the business community to forge change."

Many in big media have soured on Edwards and his "harsh anti-corporate rhetoric." As a result, we're now in the midst of a classic conflict between corporate media sensibilities and grassroots left-leaning populism.

On Wednesday, Edwards launched a TV ad in New Hampshire with him saying at a rally: "Corporate greed has infiltrated everything that's happening in this democracy. It's time for us to say, 'We're not going to let our children's future be stolen by these people.' I have never taken a dime from a Washington lobbyist or a special interest PAC and I'm proud of that."

6. Yes, but he has spent much more time in Iowa than any other candidate
That is something that all the candidates will have little of in the next few weeks.
