Here Comes the Sun
This is a good day to be a democrat.

The turn-out was impressive. The vote was relatively close. We have three very strong, capable candidates.

I thought it was exciting to watch the results come in. And then I felt the three speeches were extremely powerful. John Edwards gave a passionate speech about social justice. Hillary Clinton communicated the potency of the democratic party. And then Barack Obama delivered the word.

Compare that to the republican performance. Their top candidates are seriously flawed. Certainly, the republican machine cannot be taken for granted. But their party is being forced to choose the least damaged person, compared to the democrats being able to pick from very strong candidates. I think that both of the democrats who decided to drop out last night, Senators Biden and Dodd, are far stronger than any of the republican candidates.

We have a lot of work to do in the next 11 months. Last night showed that it is worth it.

5. America needs to hear the voices and messages of all three of these candidates.
Through Super Tuesday and beyond, this country needs to hear an excellent debate about corruption in government, about change, about unity, about the corporations that are strangling us, about healthcare. No one voice needs to be drowned out or dampened. Because the result will be a more enlightened country - even more independants coming out, more switching to our side, a huge turnout of disenfranchised Democrats. We will win overwhelmingly in the General and the country, as a whole, will be better off for it.

I hope there isn't a tragic candidate bashing about to occur - a ramping up of dirty tricks designed to keep all these voices from being heard. They are all important. They will all propel us to the WH. The rest of the 49 states have voices too. They all deserve to be able to choose which message, which candidate, they prefer. Too many excellent voices were already silenced last night in a very unfair process, which I hope will change. Most of all, we need to stop letting the MSM choose our candidate before we even have a chance to vote for them.

10. Right.
I think that between last night and this morning, most democrats can see that going negative isn't a good thing in the primary. When you look at the contrast between the vast majority of democrats, who recognize that what happened last night was very good for the entire party, with the tiny minority of bitter, sore sports, the message is clear. Though the bitter folks might be loud (aren't they always?), they present in a most unattractive manner.

John Edwards is presenting some serious issues that this nation needs to deal with, but he is doing it in a manner that reflects his absolute confidence that the greatness of America is found at the community level. Hillary Clinton certainly did not want to come in 3rd place last night, Yet she was not only graceful in her complimenting Barack and John, she also made a powerful speech about the democratic party moving forward. And Senator Obama placed himself on the short list of great modern democratic orators.

8. I agree - we have 3 strong candidates
at the top.

I thought all 3 gave good speeches last night, and I'm usually not one to
compliment Clinton's speeches.

Being a Connecticut person, I'm disappointed Dodd didn't do at least a bit better because he's been so strong this past year on a lot of important issues. I never expected him to win, but I hope he can make a run at Senate Majority Leader in 2009.

9. I hear tell quite a few Reps caucused with the Dems
And voted for Obama.

Huckabee is by far the least repugnant of the 'pugs, IMO.

Are people fed up with politics as usual? It's sure looking that way to me.

11. "Obama's speech was memorable."
Last night on CNN, the veteran observer of many campaigns, David Gergen, was visibly moved after Obama spoke. He said we will look back at this speech as a defining moment in our history. He said, "Edwards' speech was good. Obama's speech was memorable." I agree.

12. I agree.
The speeches were inspiring and it's obvious that the Democratic message of hope and change is far and away more powerful than the Republican message of fear and loathing. We had a bounty to select from. It is a good day.

14. I feel ya water guy but I ain't buying it. After all,
I still remember November - '06 that is.

What's the point of getting all excited just to end up let down like we were in '06? Granted, there's no Great Chimp to cower down to this time, but will we get in November '08 a follow-through on the promises we hear now?

We shall see but I'm not getting my hope up too far.

15. Too Delicious For Words
The heads of the Republican Establishment are exploding all over the place. Richard Vigurie and Club for Growth have already put out scathing statements about the Huck. What they fail to recognize is that he is the very face of their party as they have created it over the last 2 decades. He is the very mirror they need to be looking into.

18. Exactly! Huckabee's slice of the electorate pie is dismally small.
Put that vote up as a nation wide vote and what have you got? Besides, even if the evangelical numbers across the nation weren't so small, you are looking at a bill of goods that looks pretty shabby after 7 years of use. Nobody is buying it any more...

As long as we don't run the one person they despise more than anyone else we could run just about anyone.

The Republican's have splintered into several extremist pieces.

22. Definitely, most definitely.
I am soooo excited about the turnout last night! You said three strong candidates - we also have at least four that could step in at any time if the need would arise. We have not been in such a great position for a long time!

One thing I noticed from repukes during this caucusing - I didn't hear them mention BushCo very much at all. I think this is the beginning of a huge groundswell of people who are waking up!

Even thou I am 100% for Edwards, I am kinda excited/relieved that Obama won and Hillary took 3rd.

And the Dem turnout was almost double the GOP turnout. Can't wait to see the NH turnout is.

That will be the task ahead. The repubs will come at us. They will cheat, lie and obfuscate like there's no tomorrow. Because, for them, this is their last chance.

We must be prepared for a long, ugly haul.

I'm really disappointed that Biden and Dodd - or at least one of them! - didn't do better and have dropped out, but I am very happy for Obama and Edwards. And I'm so proud and happy to have seen an American of African descent win a Presidential primary! I didn't anticipate feeling this...hopeful, less pessimistic, relieved? about the future. The kids too; all those young adults coming out in force to make their choices count.

It's really amazing and wondrous. A very good day to be a democrat, indeed!

K&R
