1932, Here we Come!
Imagine the consequences if the economy hits the wall before November. Amidst the financial wreckage of the nation and the resulting misery, some strange things could happen. Maybe a major catastrophe of that sort is what it would take to, first, bring in a Democratic super-majority, and second, enable a progressive revolution across the board--health care, a sane welfare program, an environmental Manhattan Project centered on the development of renewable energy, an immediate end to the war, a new national unity of vision that leads to a retaking of America from the greedy fingers of the corporations...

1. sorry
fearmongering works best in that climate. And I hate to say it but the conservatives are better it than than progressives.

3. Well, FDR pulled off a couple of interesting things
under similar circumstances. It's kinda old hat to point out the parallels between 1929 and now, but...

10. And we are MUCH more like the 1930s Germans than we are the 1930s Americans
There is no bottom limit to what we are capable of, since the Busheis reprogrammed the nation and our Democrats stood by, either confused or unwilling to do anything to counteract it while we still had a chance.

There may still be a chance, but it is no better than slim because the reprogramming is closer to being finsihed than it is to it's beginning in the late 70s.

6. FDR.."The only thing we have to fear....
...is fear itself."

What we need is an actual leader who could appeal to people to brave up.

Having said that, I certainly agree that the conservative/Fux fearmongering is powerful. It's gonna take a real leader.

7. Is the truth Fear Mongering?
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 10:46 PM by MadMaddie
Every economic indicator is showing a downturn...the stock market took a hit because unemployment rose to 5%

The housing Market is in shambles....builders are closing their doors.

Mortgage companies are closing their doors.

People are loosing their homes...

The Credit industry is reporting record defaults...

The problem is that people have believed the lie for too long and now that it is time to pay for the lies...no one wants to admit they they were suckered.

2. Economically speaking...there is not much more propping up
this administration can do to try to make the country look like it's on economic sound ground.

The last 12 years of a Rethuglican controlled economy is going to bite every American in the ass...

9. The way the Fed is printing money, the race is on to get the economy rolling
...before hyperinflation wipes out all savings. All that I can see from Helicopter Ben's monetary stimulation is tens of billions going to bail out hedge fund speculators and raiders being given highly leveraged advantage to suck up bargains in real estate foreclosures :wtf:

11. The people who run Wall Street will be LOATHE to declare a RECESSION before the Nov. elections.
That would hurt GOP chances for victory even more because the implication was it happened on GWB's watch, a Republican.
