1. I'm staying the hell off the roads
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 10:59 PM by Ellen Forradalom
And warm in my house, thank you.

On edit: I hope La Conchita has been evacuated. La Conchita is a hamlet along the 101 that suffered a devasting mudslide a couple years back in which 9 people died.

4. I'm snug at home
I wasn't going to leave the house today, but then Trader Joe's free coffee samples called to me... (I am on the coffee wagon, and I spend most of the day napping. Then I decided one teeny cup couldn't hurt. :P )

So I went out to my car, and there were 6 inches of water surrounding my ride. :o

I parked it in a different spot on the return. :)

BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED
FLASH FLOOD WARNING

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OXNARD HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
LOS ANGELES COUNTY EXCEPT THE ANTELOPE VALLEY...
ALL OF VENTURA COUNTY
SOUTHEASTERN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

* UNTIL 200 AM PST SATURDAY

* AT 750 PM PST...WEATHER RADAR INDICATED WIDESPREAD HEAVY TO VERY
HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNING AREA AND SEVERAL TRAINED WEATHER
SPOTTERS AS WELL AS THE CHP HAVE REPORTED FLOODING AND HEAVY
RAINFALL OVER THE WARNED AREA.

* THIS FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS NOW NOT JUST LIMITED TO THE BURN AREAS

* THIS WARNING SUPERSEDES ALL OTHER FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS.

RESIDENTS AND MOTORISTS IN AND BELOW RECENTLY BURNED AREAS SHOULD BE
ALERT TO HEAVY MUD AND DEBRIS FLOWS WHICH MAY BLOCK ROADS AND
CULVERTS.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE
UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS
SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY.
RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE
PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF FLOOD WATERS. ONLY A FEW INCHES OF
RAPIDLY FLOWING WATER CAN QUICKLY CARRY AWAY YOUR VEHICLE.
