What's behind the sudden surge of "concern" about Obama's racial makeup?
I've just noticed the sudden upswing in posts lately. Where was all this "concern" before?

1. They thought their "concern" would be "taken care of" at a lower level
so there was no need to express it back then.

Possibly they were wrong.

4. The 'concern' is not coming from Obama supporters, in case that
slipped your notice.

there's a lot of questionable characters around here lately.
They're pretty easy to spot. Go with your gut and what you know is right in your heart.

7. Well, it could be something politically organized.
Or it could be frustration at his Iowa finish and thus, attempts at trying to weaken his support.

6. some are simply racists, and some are opportunists...
... who want to use other people's racism to their advantage.

8. yep both overt and latent
in the case of the opportunists - exploiting the fear of how other voters will vote (latent).

9. Or some are genuinely concerned that we might end up
with a repunk for 4 or 8 more years. If someone brings up something in a respectful manner here at DU - a legitimate concern - why are they suspect - or a troll - or a racist - is it not possible that they might have a legitimate concern?

I moved to Florida just over 3 years ago from Northern VA - If I was still in Northern VA I wouldn't give much thought to the race issue. BUT since I have moved here I have seen and experienced the most OUTRAGEOUS racist things in my whole freaking life. It has been stunning and so so SAD. I am a white woman - and people have said the most fucking outrageous things to me - thinking I'm white and I must agree with them. It has been horrifying. I also have three bi-racial nephews and I swear to Christ I'm almost afraid to let them lose around here for fear someone will say something STUPID.

I am just afraid that since "they" swiftboated John Kerry from a decorated war hero to questioning his military record - against a man who served his military time in a bar in AL - I am afraid that by the end of this "they" will turn Barak HUSSEIN Obama into a Muslim terrorist and worse. Oh you'll hear them accidentally call him Barak Osama - oh there will be emails flying all over the internet that he was educated in madrases and much worse. Then add in caging, black voter suppression and the electronic voting machine and I am very worried that we may end up with another repunk and I just can't take 4 or 8 more years of it.

I also think that either Obama or Clinton might motivate repunk voters who might otherwise just stay the hell home to vote against them.

I hope to God I'm wrong about all this - I am not a racist - hell I voted for Jesse Jackson in a primary a million years ago - I also do not think it is racist to raise this question. Several people called Sam Seder yesterday when he was subbing for Randi and raised this issue and the majority of those callers were black.

Like I said I hope I am absolutely wrong about this - but I watched in HORROR at what they did to Kerry and I'm thinking they are not likely to stop.

Now my optimistic side feels wouldn't this be the coolest thing ever and such a fabulous role model for my nephews.....

And one more thing if Obama does get the nomination and it is mainly because of all these new young voters - they had better get their sorry asses out and vote for him in November....because I think in the past the youth vote has not been all it has been expected to be in the general.

10. There's nothing wrong discussing one's fears of what may happen.
However, there doesn't need to be a daily deluge of posts on the same topic since he won the first state. Call me suspicious.

14. Well that is true
but maybe it is like someone else said - probably didn't expect it to be an issue since the vibe was Clinton was inevitable - which by the way I never thought she was....and I actually worry that she is even less electable than Obama.

I just friggin hope to God we don't have to suffer through these repunks any longer - I can not take it nor can this country....

12. These are the same people...
who were saying "Obama isn't black enough"

Well, he is now the front runner and it seems they have decided that he is plenty black after all.

Racism on the DU.
