NH: Edwards Packs in an Overflow Crowd . . .
EDWARDS: NOT A TWO-PERSON RACE

From NBC's Kevin Corke
Saturday, January 05, 2008 12:49 PM

CONCORD, N.H. -- Edwards packed in an overflow crowd of 415 at a Shriner Hall here and said he's the underdog in the race again. He also encouraged Granite-staters to ignore the national media, who have been proclaiming this a two-person race (ie: Obama-Clinton).

Trends: (1) Edwards is hammering the idea that he's the little guy (the underdog) in the race and is hoping New Hampshire voters, who have a penchant for rejecting Iowa's judgment will vote for him and defy political convention (and the national media); (2) He's spending a lot of energy comparing his ideas to Obama's while being careful to not mention him by name too much; (3) He has also been talking more about domestic environmental and energy policy, international affairs and the struggling economy.

Edwards Quoteables: (1) "We cannot sustain this ad hoc strategy to prevent the spread of nuclear technology."

(2) "We're not the $100 million campaign."

Scene: Edwards (again introduced by his wife Elizabeth, who got tremendous applause) tried to draw distinctions between his policy proposals and his competitors. He took more questions than usual at this stop and touched on a wider range of issues.

3. I can't remember who from D.U. is there on the ground in NH, but
I would love to ask John to distinguish himself from the others in this race via bring home the troops-NOW.

10. We're here.
Mr. Tesha and I are here "on the ground" in New Hampshire
and John has certainly spoken of his plans to end the
war in the events we've attended. It isn't exactly
"bring them all home now" but it's close enough for
us. The questions he gets usually reinforce the general
opinion up here that it's long since time to end the
occupation.

Tesha

P.S.: Tomorrow, Mr. Tesha'll be walking the wards
for Edwards.

7. John has got to start driving home
the point that polls have shown him to beat every republican by the largest margins of anybody.

He has been very reserved to date about pointing that out. His nature is not to puff himself up personally but that is what I hope he does. Starting tonight.

18. at every event i was at with John in Iowa that was the #1 point pointed out ..
sorry that the media ignored it..but it was also the volunteers #1 talking point!!

at the caucus's many of us had a small copy of the poll about electibility...with a chart.

It was a very important stressed point in Iowa..i am sure it is the same in NH..as many of the volunteers who were in Iowa went to NH..

12. I think John likes this position. He is a figher.
They wouldn't have ever made any more Rocky films if Stallone had knocked out Apollo Creed with one punch in Rocky I.

13. John is a fighter, and I definitely think he can score at least 2nd place...
if only NH voters would WAKE UP to how bad a Hillary nomination or presidency would be.

14. NH is such a conservative little place with the Manchester Union Leader
calling the shots. You'd think that this little berg deciding the fates of campaigns would have the rest of the country wise to the game of M$M, now, wouldn't you ?

How progressive are these New Hampshire voters, anyway ?

17. Some are quite progressive ... others are just tepid
but we worked very hard to turn NH blue last time around. Should be a cakewalk this time though.

20. NH voted Dem for prez in '92, 96, 04 and just elected a Dem Gov and has 2
Dem representatives. It used to be a rock solid GOP state but that began to change in the 90s as more people began moving into NH from MA.
