1. What difference there is is in the kind of stupidity rather than in the degree of stupidity. nt

2. funny you ask
until this week I haven't been on DU much - mostly quick early am and late pm reads- and very little GDP reads. I asked another long timer if it was as ugly as 04, and was told it was far uglier. Then I have had this time off to read - and that description is right. UGLY, UGLY, UGLY. I have to vote that it is worse.

3. I believe that it is much worse this time than last. I managed to stay
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 02:16 PM by Dhalgren
out of most of the '04 carnage and I have managed so far to escape this season's buffet of brutality. So from the sidelines, this season appears much worse than the last one...

4. By this time in 2004, the admins had set up safe havens for fans of all candidates.
It's bad, but it's not as bad as in 2004.

10. GD: Politics
was set up because it was so bad in 2004. In addition, the rules were stricter.

To date, 2004 was much worse.

7. '04 got pretty nasty
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 03:14 PM by Fighting Irish
As I recall, there were some pretty rough Dean vs. Clark wars. Got so bad that a bunch of Dean fans left and started up their own message board (not sure if it's still around, though).

The administrators here even instituted new rules to keep the mayhem down.

The Kucinich fans stayed to themselves. Not that many Edwards and Kerry supporters at first. Gephart had some union people here who liked him. And there may have been only one or two Lieberman supporters that I could recall (though many adopted his avatar for obvious irony purposes).

As for this year, it's a little heated, but not like four years ago. However, I have found some of the Obama supporters to be a bit rude and condescending. Not a good move if you want to eventually woo me over to your side (which I hope doesn't need to happen)...

15. Congressional primaries were fugly too in 2006
lots of battles between DLC and mainstream Dem candidates.

I'm still banned from the Ohio forum over the Brown/Hackett race. Of course, now all the people who hated Brown love him.

Using "Deaniebopper" in '04 got your post deleted.

13. I thought it was Deaniacs, Clarkbars, and Kerryites
and they were all pretty antagonistic to one another.

and how they acted like teeny-boppers. They shriveled up, took offense, cried like little teeny-boppers and the term got banned here at DU.

The knives are out nowadays on DU, and if you say the wrong thing about someone's pet candidate, you get slashed.

16. It was straitjacket-worthy this time.
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 05:48 PM by A-Schwarzenegger
You could feel your brain rotting just reading.
It was Alien vs. Predator. Or Mongo vs. Mongo.
In 04 we had had 3-4 years of Bush, now we've
had 7-8. The extra hatred for Bush has spilled over into
hatred for one another. Plus DU is much bigger,
and bigger is rarely better, just louder, more iddish,
more static less message.
