Heartbreaking Story on NPR Yesterday About Discrimination Against Muslims - anyone know the details?

I know this is a fairly random post, but I was driving along yesterday (Saturday) and heard this horrifying story about a Muslim family in the U.S. (I never figured out where) who, after 9/11, became subject to terrible discrimination, vandalism, etc. The absolute worst part was when the mom described how her daughter's fourth grade teacher used a textbook explaining how Muslims want to kill Americans and how the religion as a whole were the perpetrators of 9/11. I never heard the conclusion or any of the details. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I swear, I saw another car with a Bush/Cheney bumpersticker and literally wanted to pull alongside them at that very moment.

I missed both the beginning and ending.

The last part I remember hearing is the father got fed up and went to live with relatives in another state. He wants to take the family back to the West Bank. He says at least everyone has the same problem there. The mother doesn't want to go so far from home.

4. That story breaks my heart

Yesterday was the second time I had heard that story - it was just as devastating the second time I heard it as the first :(

I hate to admit this, but I wanted to find out where that school is located. I'd like to know who these horrible people are and where they live. I want to know the teachers name. They should not be able to hide from the public eye due to some "agreement" with the government.

5. This has been a hugely underreported story.

Not just this family but thousands apparently, and not just Muslims, and not just harassment. Arrests, beatings, deportations, confiscation of property, "frozen" accounts, whole nine yards. Really sickening and we're just starting to hear about it.

7. I was harrassed at a bar - "you're one of them"

...and I'm only partially Armenian (Christian) and my family has been in the US for 400 years combined paternal & maternal!

Funny how the truth comes out of some of the rednecks after a few beers :eyes:
