But he was the only president in modern times to win Iowa and go on and win the presidency.

Likewise from 1952 thru 2000 NO PRESIDENT has won the New Hampshire primary and went on to win the presidency...George W. Bush of course "won" in 2004 and was "elected" president.

Just throwing a few TRUE FACTS out there. The truth manages to get strangled so I thought it would be nice to post it once in a while.

and I think you'll find that most incumbents that ran for re-election, won their party's primary, even in Iowa and New Hampshire. Like Bill Clinton in 1996 or Ronald Reagan in 1984. Even 1 term Presidents that decided to run again probably won the primaries in both states, like G.H.W. Bush in 1992.

I haven't fact checked it, but that's a guess.

And the sample pool of elections to choose from where this is NOT the case and there was a primary system in place is simply too small to draw any sort of statistical data from.

In other words, insignificant.

Back in 1999, I was living in the same large apartment complex in Portland as some wealthy Republican donors, and they told me then that Bushboy was going to be the nominee.

All I knew of him was what Molly Ivins had written, and I knew that she was unimpressed, so I asked, "Is he really the best one? Aren't there other people who are more qualified?"

"Oh no," they assured me. "He's going to be the nominee! Just wait."

This was, I remind you, in 1999.

Carter placed second in Iowa, only to "Uncommitted".

And last I checked, uncommitted wasn't running.
