My fellow DUers. Let us not hope.
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 01:02 AM by leftofthedial
Seriously. There is ZERO hope of real change happening in November.

A few small things might get a little better, but the country and the world will still be getting the same crooked deal we've been getting in stronger and stronger measure since at least 1963 if not longer.

The best possible case is that one of the leading "democrats" will "win" and fiddle around the edges--take the angry edge off the masses before we truly revolt. But this time around, after the next "president" allows the current generation of oligarchical criminals to get off scot-free, fewer than ever will own more than ever. The wealthy will take the trillions they've siphoned away from the masses, further entrench themselves as the new aristocracy (same as the old aristocracy), and start plotting their next foray into overt control over our "democracy" in eight or twelve or sixteen years.

Let us not fool ourselves with FALSE hopes. Let us rather set our sights on something achievable--legislated 100% corporate control over our health and our lives, for example. Fewer and fewer restrictions on corporations. A multi-generational military presence in Iraq. A continuing reliance on petroleum. Fewer civil liberties. To dream of any other future is delusional. I implore you my friends! Do not prepare for failure by working to achieve your FALSE hopes or by supporting those candidates who pander to you by promising what they can not possibly deliver.

we ARE demanding an awful lot from our next President, and we may be setting ourselves up for disappointment if they aren't able to deliver what they hope to.

I WILL be angry if they don't sincerely TRY to effect the changes they're spouting, though...

10. only two of them are really even advocating change
the others seem to want to make things worse (which I guess could be considered "change"), or just want to wave their hands and hope we don't notice that nothing changed, or want to rearrange deck chairs . . .

I hear the word change, but I read what passes for policy statement and plans, and with a couple of exceptions, I don't SEE any real change.

But let us not be bamboozled by FALSE hopers who sell us empty bottles of magic hope elixir. Remember! The only TRUE hope comes in packets of kool-aid.

19. not one of us is going to get through life
without hope.

Hope is essential for life- and all this bullshit about "false hope" is as damaging as the lies, paranoia and hatred that this f-d up administration has shoved down our throats for years now-

If we are going to settle for simply what some see as "achievable"- then we have already lost our future.

The future belongs to those who have the courage not only to face disappointment, and still endure- it requires people who have the capacity to believe embrace the realization of our hopes.

Without hope we don't live- we simply exist. And even that is tenuous.

Suicide is the only response left to real hope-less ness.

been there-
don't recommend it

35. I rarely pay attention to the man who demands my hope
Although I rarely pay attention to the man who demands my hope, I pay even less attention to those who demand I do not hope.

One man's false hope is another man's realistic goal. Unless you're a prophet, or have a few Nobel prizes under your belt, you're not really in a position to tell me which of my hopes are valid, realistic, or attainable.

I find 'false hope' to be much less indictable than no hope. Different strokes, I guess...

54. Wisdom contradicted by despair
It is good not to hold delusions. Be prepared for those who have them to turn completely the other way. Sound advice in any circumstance. Nothing is achieved by giving up. Defeatism is the most self-fulfilling
philosophy, which is a sub-article of Catch-22.

Take a real look at the Dems. you can see some of that. Now take a look at the GOP and you see ALL of the that multiplied to your personal early grave. Having a real chance means dealing with an imperfect world. Insisting all is over without a fantasy means being at peace with irresponsibility and doom denied until it happens. It seems like it shouldn't work that way, that the good road is not that good all the time and the bad road is more than that bad- eventually.

Step one: citizen awareness that the Dem decline was a fraud that the compromises were bad ideas conditioned by defeat and conspiracy. New Dems reacting to real crises becoming a progressive caucus(meet the stifled Black caucus at the back of the bus). Dean open the door to grass roots party power and the right ideas. The ultimate centrist candidate gets denied by the party. The old guard starts to fade and reality forces reluctant change, reluctant contradictions to bi-partisan corporatist nicety. Uphill all the way.

It is the only way to actually climb a hill but someone keeps waiting for a helicopter.

66.  I try to face the reality
I can't buy that once a Dem wins which ever one it may be will bring on some sudden change and instill some sort of hope . Hope is something you have to find within yourself , it's not something anyone can give to you .

I am not holding my breath at this point that a Dem will even win .

It strikes me odd and I am a bit suspicious that Obama won in Iowa a 95 % white area , what, suddenly all the racism vanished , something about this does not sit well with me . Everyone is some joyfull and elated on some sort of high .

I won't go into detail but something stinks here . For some reason , perhaps because I have been around quite a while things just don;t change in an instant .

People have said this country will never vote in a black president and this is a valid point and I am not prejudice just suspicious . It has nothing to do with Obama personally .

I have a feeling this is a game being played and we know the sides have been talken and politics is dirty games .

I have to say I don't trust things that fly in the face of many years of what I have seen whne it comes to games .

Who would have thought after 2000 and then again in 2004 and again in 2006 we would in 7 years reach the point we are at now but it happened , so I don't trust anything and hope , well I can have my own personal hope but it is not in politics .

68. ROTFLMAO @ Debbie Downer
Yes, I've been getting tired of hearing about my "False Hope" as well.

BTW, I've a friend who is co-admin at a fun multi-interest discussion board. She is getting bashed for being an Obama supporter. She invited me to the forum to look at a cute little Obama thread where she posted her "Obama album." It was cute. I don't want to lift her pics, but it's at this link:

70. Looks like you have done your research and educated yourself...
on what has been taking place, good job by you. Just think of how many people that have never heard of the Bilderberg group, its been meeting annually since the 1950's. A secretive group of elites in politics, business and media having their own little meetings since the 50's to discuss the direction of the world and yet barely anyone has even heard of it. Scary shit.
