Feingold: Statement on the Supreme Court case on the constitutionality of lethal injection
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 02:51 PM by undeterred
"As the Supreme Court effectively halts executions nationwide to consider the constitutionality of lethal injection, we should take the opportunity to address just how deeply flawed the implementation of capital punishment in this country is. Racial disparities, convictions based on bad evidence, and grossly inadequate indigent defense systems are among the compelling reasons why state-sponsored executions have no place in a nation based on equal justice under the law. The recent abolition of the death penalty in New Jersey and the American Bar Association's call for a nationwide moratorium are positive signs of increasing support for ending the death penalty."

Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI), a longtime opponent of capital punishment, is the author of S.447 - the Federal Death Penalty Abolition Act.

6. Here's #5. Feingold would be a great president,
but he was smart enough to realize that he could not even get the nomination, that's there's no sense tilting at windmills and wasting lots of time and money in doing it. I think he believes that he can do more by just be a hard working U.S. senator who stands up for his beliefs, even when liberals do not like them.

7. I agree.
But the fact that someone like him cannot get the nomination because he will not play the money games that you have to play, highlights exactly what is wrong with our system. Here is someone who is extremely intelligent and ethical, is a born leader, but he doesn't fit the stereotype and he doesn't play the corporate games.

We've created a monstrous system for selecting a president, and if we end up with any kind of leader at all, its a miracle. Here's hoping we get one in spite of it.
