We should be prepared to support whomever the candidate is....
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 03:30 PM by kentuck
It is OK to fight for who we think is best for our country. In my opinion, John Edwards would do the best in the general election, but I am ready to fight for Obama or Hillary, should they be the nominee. We know that whomever the nominee, they will be attacked by the right-wing machine. We need to be prepared to fight back with everything we have. If Obama is the candidate, then we must be ready to defend him to the last person. No matter who the nominee, we will not let either of them be attacked without fighting back. We can fight amongst ourselves to try and get our candidate nominated, but once they are chosen, we must all be brothers and sisters in arms.

on edit: changed the word "vow" because it may be too strong for Democrats to use and might not be the appropriate word. However, we need to be prepared to vote for the second best Democrat if our favorite does not win. We cannot let the Republicans stay in the White House for 4-8 more years just because our "favorite" did not win.

1. NO! I'm a free-thinking independent person of dignity who despises "party loyalty" in any shape!
I'm also pretty fucking stupid...

2. Vow? Love, honor, and obey? I'm already married.
No thanks.

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." --Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." --Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.

5. And Ben Franklin said...
Either we all hang together or surely we shall all hang separately... I don't think anyone wants 4 more years of Bush Republican rule. Divide and conquer. It could happen.

With that said, I am fighting for John Edwards t be the next President. If by some unfortunate circumstance he does not win the nomination, I will fight for the next Democrat. It does not make sense to walk away and give it to the Republicans, in my opinion.

9. Fine. We all have our own set of principles.
Mine just happen to match the ones stated by Jefferson (and, others).

13. Kucinich
And, I intend to vote for the most progressive/anti-war candidate on the ballot. Even if I have to write one in.

14. Yes, you may have to vote for someone else...
It doesn't appear that Dennis will be the nominee, unfortunately. Are you prepared for that eventuality?

16. But, of course.
I've never expected Dennis to be more than a gadfly of the left.

Which doesn't compel me to vote for anyone else that I find distasteful.

I'm not, in the least, averse to holding my nose, having done so in almost every election I've voted in since 1965. Nor, am I averse to voting my conscious when the candidates of both major parties cross the line of human decency.

10. "I don't think anyone wants 4 more years of Bush Republican rule"
Yeah, because after 28 years of Bush-Clinton republican rule, it's getting a little stale.

12. I'm like Kucinich, insofar as I refuse to take a loyalty oath.

Overall, he is a much better human being than I.
