It is not global warming....it is human extinction.
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 09:35 PM by LeftHander
There I said it...

Every climax species eventually does exactly that...

The human species is doomed to extinction if it cannot stem the tide of consumption, over population and failure to colonize.

So Global "Warming" is really a much more pleasent prospect. Isn't it?

So CHANGE is required. Incrimental change in behavior. Starting now.

That is why I am going to vote for Obama.

We have not even begun to articulate the change the change we must do to preserve humanity.

Why wait? Who knows, we may leave homo sapiens behind in a quantem leap of evolution....

Who knows.

2. I will leave that question for you to ponder....
I know how I would answer it. But I feel it is a good question that everyone needs to answer for themselves.

4. Humans will become extinct no matter what we do.
We can only stem the tide for a few centuries, or millennia if we're lucky.

6. 10 to 20 thousand years if we are lucky
more if we actually colonize other worlds... if we do not conquer space... humans will go extinct, as any other species

95% of species throughout planetary history have already gone extinct

And yes I know you know this, but some folks don't realize this

13. Yep
The species that were successful for long periods of time (that survived mass extinctions during Earth's history) have a lot more chromosomes than humans (46), such as Ferns (1262). We do, however, have the ability to adapt and change our environment to a high degree (thanks to our intellect), but we won't survive unless we evolve into something else and move on to other worlds.

200,000+ years from now, it will be very unlikely any trace of our existence will be left. Maybe if an asteroid hits us and buries our bones, embedded in rock, some aliens might find them, but that is less likely than looking for and finding a specific grain of sand in the Sahara.

7. We are a genuinely different species -- we're in a unique position to save ourselves
Or do even more damage.

I think we'll survive, but I think it's going to be close.
